Description

To support our ongoing growth we’re looking to recruit an Assistant Compliance Officer who will be exposed to compliance across the bank, but will have a particular focus on SME banking.

The role represents a fantastic opportunity to join a vibrant institution and to shape the bank’s infrastructure for complying with its regulatory and code requirements, managing conduct risk and supporting more broadly across the second line of defense.

You will support and will report directly into the Compliance Manager-SME Banking but will also have significant exposure across the bank.

You will oversee SME banking compliance and conduct matters across the Bank and provide the necessary support, guidance and challenge in a constructive manner to support the growth of the Bank and in ensuring appropriate outcomes for our customers.

Your work will include but not be limited to:

Supporting the development, launch and ongoing 2nd line oversight of the Starling SME Banking proposition (New Product Development)

Assisting the Compliance Manager-SME Banking / Risk Assurance Manager, with conducting Compliance Monitoring and Thematic reviews

Preparing regular reports to management and the board on the status of SME Banking compliance, and conducting risks, including key risk indicators and key control indicators.

Providing the business with advice and guidance on all relevant regulatory obligations and requirements

Overseeing, monitoring and providing regulatory advice and support to Starling Banking Services (SBS) work with the Head of Compliance and other second line and colleagues and business to ensure that the firm establishes and maintains appropriate policies, procedures, systems and controls

Monitoring relevant aspects of the business to identify actual or potential weaknesses of internal controls and advising on remedial action that may be taken by line management.

Undertaking themed work to assess the firm's regulatory exposure and making recommendations to the business to enable it to ensure compliance.

Investigating regulatory breaches / near misses in conjunction with Operational Risk as necessary

Providing SME Compliance and Conduct education, awareness and training to the business as required.

Developing and strengthening relationships to promote best practice and ensure a good understanding of Regulatory / SME Banking requirements and expectations.

Supporting in the challenge Regulatory Reporting and ensuring these are submitted in a timely manner.

Assessing, interpreting and helping implement any upcoming regulatory change

Signing off Financial Promotions as and when required

Requirements

The successful candidate will have some or all of the following:

  • Broad range of UK prudential, conduct and SME Banking experience ideally within another UK Financial Institution.
  • Thorough understanding of SME Banking legislation, rules, regulations and codes (UK, EU).
  • Confident communicator at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills particularly handling difficult situations
  • The ability to challenge often, in a positive manner
  • Extensive experience and therefore understanding of regulations with the ability to interpret in a commercial context
  • First class decision making, planning and prioritising skills
  • A proven problem solver who is committed to continuous improvement

Fluency to speak and write in English are a prerequisite for the role, and we are looking for someone who has experience of providing SME Compliance / 2nd line support and challenge to a dynamic and growing business.
