This role can be based from either our London or Madrid offices and sits within the Portfolio Advisory Group (PAG), part of the wider Financial Industry Advisory Services (FIAS) practice at Alvarez and Marsal.

A&M FIAS revolves around four core areas of expertise: Performance Improvement, Loan Portfolio Advisory, Bank Restructuring and Regulatory Advisory. PAG professionals provide advisory to clients on asset options analysis, data and analytics, transaction preparation and structuring, M&A and transaction execution, portfolio/asset valuation/pricing, asset on-/off-boarding, portfolio acquisition due-diligence & underwriting and operational segregation/carve-out. The team covers a range of products, such as credit advisory, corporate M&A (lending businesses, origination and servicing platforms for credit and real estate) and secured funding and securitisation advisory.

The Purpose of the role:

PAG is currently looking for an Analyst or Associate to join our entrepreneurial and dynamic team based in either Madrid or London.

As a valued member of the PAG team, you will work on a variety of projects, leveraging your Financial Services industry knowledge to advise financial institutions, private equity firms & other investment funds, asset managers, regulators and governments across the globe with balance sheet & portfolio optimisation, acquisitions, disposals, financing, management, bank restructuring and resolutions.

Responsibilities:

The role will entail supporting the wider team on advising on balance sheet / portfolio optimization, M&A transactions on loan portfolios, structured credit solutions, performance improvement, bank restructuring and resolutions.

To do this effectively, you will need to:

  • Work closely with stakeholders in the client's business and with professionals from leading financial institutions;
  • Be an action-oriented self-starter with strong analytical skills;
  • Be comfortable working independently as well as in a high performing team;
  • Assisting in producing financial modelling and analysis of credit linked cash flow models and projections;
  • Assisting in manipulating and analysing large quantities of data;
  • Assisting in producing financial analysis, research and reports;
  • Assist in the preparation of pitch presentations to potential clients
  • Collect, assimilate, and analyze relevant data and use standard processes and tools to help surface insights and solutions
  • Analyse market trends, financial metrics, and regulatory/legal restrictions to assess impact to client’s portfolio and help evaluate different investment strategies; and
  • Playing a supporting role in the delivery of client presentations and attending client meetings when appropriate.

In joining a growing business, you will have the opportunity be involved in business development activities and will join the team meetings where WIP, project pipeline, resourcing, marketing and business development initiatives are discussed. You will be actively involved in these discussions and be an integrated part of the FIAS team.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Must have a high-grade degree (or equivalent) in a relevant finance, economics or business-related subject;
  • Work experience in the Financial Services industry within IBD, Big 4 Audit/Consulting Firms or other well-established and strong International Advisory Organizations;
  • Excellent financial analytical skills (Excel, Alteryx, Tableau, Python, etc. ) & presentation skills (Powerpoint);
  • Strong academic background;
  • Be an action-oriented self-starter with strong analytical skills;
  • Methodical and logical mindset to problem solving, an effective approach to time management and the ability to work to tight deadlines;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Willingness to travel internationally;
  • Right to work in the UK and/or EU.

Desirable:

  • Suitable candidates with other fluent European languages (Italian, French, Portuguese, Greek, German etc.) is a plus;
  • Experience in loan portfolio advisory e.g., loan portfolio transactions (sell side or buy side), asset quality reviews and stress tests, loan file and portfolio reviews, loan loss estimates, valuations, loan restructuring and recovery solutions, securitisation transactions, bank performance improvement, merger integration initiatives and project management;
  • Work experience within IBD, Big 4 Audit/Consulting Firms or other well-established and strong International Advisory Organisations;
  • ACA / ACCA/ CFA qualification (or equivalent) or in process of qualification will be considered advantage;
  • Knowledge of programming languages for data manipulation is a plus.
