The Opportunity

Leonardo Helicopters UK Customer Support Division is responsible for supporting an extensive fleet of technologically advanced helicopters, operated around the globe by government organisations, providing LH UK with over 50% of its total revenue and long term sustainable business in to the future.

An opportunity has arisen within Product Support Engineering, that being Obsolescence Engineer. The purpose of this role is:

  • To mitigate the risks to sustainment and availability of equipment affected by obsolescence, in accordance with BS EN 62402, by producing robust and cost-effective solutions and recommendations, presenting them to the business and customer base to inform decision, then delivering the selected solution.
  • To provide comprehensive forecast data and recommendations to the business and customer base, in regard to future risks to availability and sustainability of equipment potentially affected by obsolescence, to enable effective planning and informing product strategy.

What you will do

Accountabilities:

  • To undertake in-depth investigations in to issues where equipment availability and sustainability is affected by obsolescence, assessing the function and technical specifications of the affected equipment, assessing impacts to availability and sustainability, then generating mitigation options and recommendations for consideration with the stakeholders.
  • To maintain databases with equipment status and information, essential to the management of obsolescence and as required for contracted outputs, for instance; risk registers, sustainment studies, obsolescence notification records etc.
  • Identify and execute the necessary activities to deliver mitigations and solutions to maintain equipment availability and / or the functional capability, in accordance with the mitigation option(s) agreed with the stakeholders.
  • To maintain effective working relationships with associated LH functions through collaborations, contributing to the business strategies and aims, and ensuring consistency with equipment and platform plans, communicating equipment sustainability risks, e.g. through IPT membership, working groups attendance etc.
  • To prepare and provide; product availability status, statistical information and background information, to Obsolescence Managers and Lead Engineers as required and tasked.
  • To contribute to the development and execution of strategic plans for products and systems to meet current and future customer requirements, utilising intelligence gained through stakeholder and vendor interactions.

What we are looking for

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required:

  • Ability to investigate and understand complex issues and create effective solutions that minimise the impact of obsolescence on the customer.
  • Ability to read and fully comprehend technical drawings, technical documentation, specifications etc.
  • Ability to collate detailed and comprehensive information, in the form of; reports, studies and analyses, e.g. business cases, contracted deliverables, product notices etc.
  • Effective and well-practiced interpersonal skills, to communicate and collaborate with Leonardo functions and stakeholders, to gain necessary information on issues and to relay assessments and conclusions to the relevant parties in a clear and concise manner.
  • Qualified at HNC or equivalent, with Aerospace or relevant industry experience.
  • Understanding of the function of the main systems of helicopters.
  • Conversant with ERP II systems and the standard Microsoft suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint SharePoint, etc.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the data and information exchange controls and rules, related national and international controls for movement or exchange of goods and technology.
