McLaren Automotive are now looking for Engineering Graduates to become the next generation of Engineers at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey.

Joining the Engineering department, you will spend two years on our graduate programme rotating twice each year to gain experience in different Engineering teams.

You will be working alongside Engineers responsible for all McLaren’s class-leading road cars including the incredible McLaren Senna – the recently launched road-legal track car designed to be the quickest of all McLaren cars on a racetrack.

Since 2011 with the launch of the MP4-12C, McLaren Automotive has been in a phase of rapid growth. Production volumes have increased year upon year with 2018 predicting a 40% increase over a record-breaking 2017. We are now represented in over 30 global markets by more than 80 dealers.

Principal accountabilities:

As a Graduate Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and testing innovative, technology-lead solutions. You will gain experience working in some of the Engineering teams engaged in the vehicle’s mechanical design, electrical systems, software control & communication architecture, car-to-cloud connected services and vehicle testing operations across Europe.

Your career as an Engineer at McLaren will begin with a structured graduate programme where you will rotate every 6 months to gain the experience and build solid engineering skills. You will be supported by our experienced Engineers and training to provide you with a platform of essential skills including:

  • McLaren Engineering tools and processes
  • Developing core competencies including tool sets, software and best practice techniques
  • Supporting the definition of component hardware and software specifications to enable key attributes to be met
  • Systems engineering of vehicle electronics hardware and software
  • Connected car data services, IoT and cyber security
  • Supporting 3D design and development of both mechanical and electrical components including modules and wiring harnesses within the vehicle architecture, vehicle layout, packaging and design legislation
  • Model-based, auto-coded software development for prototyping and production
  • Delivering high level control strategies to support SiL, HiL & DiL simulation
  • Functional safety process delivery relevant to implementation ASIL level
  • Developing test methodologies to improve data validation capabilities at McLaren
  • Prototype vehicle build experience, including support with Functional Requirement specifications and build management to support programme/s development validation plan (DVP)
  • Definition, development and testing of vehicle functionality, including software and calibration
  • Supporting activities to guarantee project delivery in line with MDP and gateway deliverables
  • Supporting production ramp up and series development
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews

Requirements:

  • On course for/Achieved a 2.1 or above at undergraduate level in an Engineering discipline - Mechanical, Automotive, Electronics, Physics or; a closely related subject.
  • You will have undertaken an industrial placement year and/or summer placement/internship
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Capable of working independently or collaborating with colleagues
  • A strong desire for continuous learning
  • You learn, act and reflect, rising to every challenge, striving for success
  • Great attention to detail and an attitude to produce ‘right first time’ quality work
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain a very high level of professionalism & instil trust

  • Prioritise and manage personal workload to ensure project requirements are achieved
