The position

As an International Legal Counsel, you will be providing legal and contracting support to the Business Unit Offshore Wind, based in our Gorinchem offices. You will support the tender, procurement and project teams, advising on legal and contractual risks and opportunities arising in the course of bidding and tendering processes, contract execution and maintenance/warranty periods.

You would be engaged in a suite of main- and subcontract type’s ranging from Balance of Plant, to Transport & Installation and from Design & Construct to true subcontract; from Services Agreements to vessel charters and from joint venture agreements to NDAs, and more.

You will be member of tender- and procurement teams, as a representative of the legal team.

We would expect you to be a pro-active, self-confident, constructive critical, creative and sociable legal advisor of the various team leaders and BU Management, looking for solutions not problems along Van Oord’s contracting principles, who values teamwork, sharing and who can put things in perspective and has affinity with the dynamics of a project driven organisation. And who is has a sense of humour and is generally good humoured.

Your advice and recommendations are convincing, and you are capable when it comes to working on different projects, in different teams at the same time and flexible/willing to occasionally travel.

Your responsibilities

  • Qualifying, drafting, editing, negotiating ITT (received and issued), bid and tender documentation and provide other legal support and advice;
  • Timely interacting with Insurance, Finance, Compliance and other departments relevant for proper contracting and negotiation;
  • Dispute avoidance, mitigation and resolution;
  • Keeping you and your colleagues up to date with legal developments in relevant countries and industries;
  • Contributing to the development and implementation template contracts and of policies, procedures and principles that have a legal ‘angle’ to it;
  • Contract management tasks and responsibilities, incl. the drafting of Variations, Claims.

Job requirements

In order for you to fulfil the position, it is important that you recognise yourself in the profile as stated below. You have:

  • a Master’s degree in the law of any or more developed countries, with specialisation in e.g. construction or maritime law (or equivalent like King’s College Masters in Construction Law, Solicitors Finals + training);
  • At least six years of working experience preferably in offshore construction and/or maritime industry or similar; FIDIC (YB), LOGIC and (BIMCO) Chartering experience is of added value;
  • First-hand knowledge of and experience with common law governed contracts is preferable;
  • Fully professional command of English language, oral and written; professional command of other languages adds value;
  • Well-developed negotiating and drafting skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal team working skills; Able to perform under pressure.
  • You need to be permitted to work in the EU and prepared to live in the Netherlands.
