The position

As a Contract Manager, you will be providing legal and contracting support to the Business Unit Offshore Wind, based in our Gorinchem offices. You will provide contract management and administration services to project teams for the on-going offshore wind projects, advising on legal and contractual risks and opportunities arising in the course of contract execution and maintenance/warranty periods, relative to Main-, Sub-, Supply- and Services agreements.

We would expect you to be a pro-active, self-confident, constructively critical, creative and sociable contractually minded advisor of the various team leaders and BU Management, able to focus on detailed aspects whilst understanding the full picture, looking for solutions not problems along Van Oord’s contracting principles, who values teamwork, sharing and who can put things in perspective and has affinity with the dynamics of a project driven organisation. And who is has a sense of humour and is generally good humoured.

Your advice and recommendations are convincing and flexible/willing to occasionally travel.

Your responsibilities

  • Contract management tasks and responsibilities, incl. the drafting and negotiating of subcontracts, variations and claims and assisting with general strategy for contract management;
  • Assisting the procurement department in the drafting, negotiating and managing of project specific supply-, charter- and service contracts
  • Timely interacting with in-house legal specialists, Insurance, Finance, Compliance and other departments relevant for proper contracting and negotiation.

Job requirements

In order for you to fulfil the position, it is important that you recognise yourself in the profile as stated below. You have:

  • A Master Degree in Law – preferably but not necessarily construction law, maritime law and/or contracting law;
  • An Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or equivalent
  • A Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • A Master’s of Science in Technology (Construction Management) or equivalent like King’s College Masters in Construction Law;
  • At least six years of working experience as a contract manager preferably in offshore (wind) construction and/or maritime industry or similar;
  • Familiar with FIDIC (YB) and LOGIC and (BIMCO) Chartering experience is of significant added value;
  • First-hand knowledge of and experience with both common law ánd civil law governed contracts is preferable;
  • Fully professional command of English language, oral and written; professional command of other languages like Dutch, German, French, Polish, Danish adds value;
  • Well-developed negotiating and drafting skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal team working skills; able to perform under pressure.
  • You need to be permitted to work in the EU and prepared to live in the Netherlands.
