Analyst - Agriculture

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You will be based in our Amsterdam, Brussels or Munich office as part of our Chemicals & Agriculture practice. You will be a part of a global practice of more than 100 core partners and practice-dedicated senior experts, and a pool of over 600 consultants regularly working on projects in Chemicals and Agriculture.

McKinsey’s Agriculture Service line supports companies across the agriculture value chain from leading AgChem, seeds, and fertilizer players to agriculture commodity traders and processors. We also serve governments and foundations to shape transformative Ag programs. Through our biosystems work, we support system approaches towards land use, ocean/fisheries and biobased waste. Since 2015, we have conducted more than 1,100 agriculture projects and partnered closely with other practices to support additional agriculture and food-related projects (e.g. agriculture investing, consumer goods/retail commodity sourcing).

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will leverage your industry knowledge and expertise to solve some of the most pressing and complex issues at clients.

In this role, you will be staffed on client engagements and be responsible for identifying issues, forming hypotheses, designing and conducting analysis, synthesizing conclusions into recommendations and helping to implement change with our clients. Throughout an engagement, you will be involved in discussions and presentations with client team members and leadership.

You will lead or contribute to knowledge development initiatives in order to expand our agriculture capabilities. You will develop and maintain a strong internal reputation and network with client teams. You will be "in the flow" of new external thinking and will renew personal knowledge and expertise over time to remain at leading edge in the field.

You will work as a team member on subjects ranging from strategy and operations, to conducting due diligence. Examples of the type of work include the transformation of Ag/food companies while focusing on operations and optimization from "farm to fork"/cost knowledge chain, and helping private equity investors conduct diligence within Ag/food, and commercial analytics of how clients can do better in cost selling.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Undergraduate degree; advanced degree (master's or PhD) ideally in agriculture related area of study such as agriculture economics, agronomy, biotechnology/plant genomics, precision Ag related fields is a plus
• 2-5 years of relevant experience in the agriculture space ideally including alternative protein, microbiology/biotech, sustainability, dairy, food sourcing, equipment/irrigation, digital strategy and/or analytical trading
• Outstanding performance track record and career development
• Experience participating in or leading operational improvement projects and/or successful change management
• Strong business and industry insight and problem solving on a global scale
• Strong interpersonal and English communication (oral and written) skills
