Job description

Our technical landscape is becoming more and more complex, especially after Omnia Retail and Patagona GmbH joined forces and two technical organizations are being integrated. That’s why we are looking for our first DevOps Engineer.

The current AWS environment and infrastructure have been set up by our backend teams but as we grow we see that an experienced DevOps Engineer could be a great addition to our teams. You will be operating in an almost ‘greenfield’ situation where a lot of processes, setup, automations and optimizations still have to be defined and implemented.

Even if you don’t know Omnia Retail you have probably been exposed to the work of our powerful pricing software the last time you bought something online. As an organization, we are committed to providing consistently the best pricing platform to our customers while growing a high-performance team of inspired developers constantly on the look for the most suitable solutions. The DevOps Engineer will play an important role in making our product even more reliable every day.

Key responsibilities for this position are:

  • Assessing the current infrastructure (asynchronous Scala microservices running on AWS and processing dozens of millions data points every day), identifying focus areas and priorities for improvements
  • Defining and setting up the new infrastructure, being in the lead for refactoring and innovation initiatives
  • Owning the AWS platform infrastructure : isolating new Kubernetes clusters, building more instances for queuing services etc.
  • Identifying and acting upon ‘low hanging fruits’ ex: optimisation of CI/CD pipelines
  • Working closely with development teams to identify more improvements
  • Thinking in terms of scalability and performance with a real DevOps mentality: keep it simple, automate what can be automated and keep iterating

Requirements

The ideal candidate has a strong sense of ownership and innovation and brings a solid DevOps experience.

  • Relevant DevOps experience, strong and demonstrable knowledge of AWS and Kubernetes
  • Excellent problem analysis skills (capacity to identify, prioritise and manage small and complex infrastructure challenges)
  • Experience in distributed systems environment,
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible and infrastructure as code
  • Strive for simplicity, automation and performance,
  • Commitment to quality and innovation,
  • Good sense of iteration and experiment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • You should be based in Germany or in the Netherlands to apply for this opportunity.
