OUR Role:

As an Assistant Lecturer, you will be responsible (jointly with Senior Lecturers) for the progress and academic achievement of degree apprentices on Digital & Technology Degree Apprenticeships at Level 6 (undergraduate) and Level 7 (postgraduate. The programme involves a wide range of technical skills across Networking and IT Infrastructure. The role involves innovative approaches to teaching and learning, including blended learning, work based assessment strategies and challenge-based learning designed around the unique opportunities presented by Degree Apprenticeships. You will be primarily focused on teaching, learning and assessment for a group of apprentices each term, working closely with other lecturers and skills coaches to deliver the best outcomes for apprentices.

The role requires working with Senior Lecturers, who are Module Leaders, and the Associate Dean. We work as a close-knit, broadly self-managed team, sharing teaching experiences and new ideas. We challenge each other and work determinedly and efficiently, to reach ever improving teaching and learning standards and outcomes.

Having a passion for teaching, imparting knowledge and engendering new skills and behaviours, keeping up to date in an ever-changing world, and importantly role-modelling your interest in inquiring into organisations to promote the professional development of managers, are all needed for this varied, evolving role.

YOUR experience:

  • A postgraduate degree – preferably in a computing or related discipline
  • Teaching and learning experience, including work-based learning and a specialist subject area**
  • A teaching qualification or a desire to obtain one, preferably Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
  • Experience outside of education in a business sector(s)
  • The skill and habits of someone who can role model continual learning and inquiry
  • An interest in, and updated knowledge of the impact of technology on business
  • Daily ways of working that include skills that enhance efficiency
  • Evidence of managing students within university rules and regulations or operating in a similar, quality led environment
