We run an exciting 12 month placement where you are given an opportunity to work in a role and on real projects making a difference in both your team and the company as a whole. You will receive on the job training and take part in a structured Training & Development Programme designed to give the skills and competencies required for future graduate roles.

  • As the Laboratory Operations Placement Student within this very busy department, you will be an integral member of the team and will support key projects throughout the year. This role involves dealing directly with the technical staff from within the development testing facility and with other staff across the technical function at the site as needed on subjects such as validation programs, testing processes, risk assessments, work studies, facility improvements, equipment sourcing and asset utilisation.
  • Attendance at project validation planning meetings, taking minutes and collating all relevant information. Support in key project planning & validation activities.
  • Involvement in understanding current testing processes and the design of new ones to support the needs of business growth within product development and test.
  • Conducting risk assessments of various testing activities and preparing / releasing method statements to ensure standard work is safe & fully documented.
  • Undertaking work time studies to understand the ‘true’ value of test activities and to suggest improvement ideas where necessary in line with business needs.
  • Assisting with the ‘Test Technology’ team in defining / drafting new upgrades for the various testing environments within the facilities.
  • Scoping and sourcing new equipment / tooling to support product validation and facility maintenance - encompassing the latest technologies available.
  • Working with the testing team to identify potential opportunities linked at improving asset utilisation and improving product throughput.
  • Any other generalist duties as required by the department.
  • Embracing the Company values and mission; and representing and promoting Cummins Power Systems to the Customer, internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • Studying for a Technical Discipline or Business related degree.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills to include Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude with a desire to learn and take on responsibility.
  • Some experience of working within a Technical function will be advantageous but not mandatory.

The role will provide excellent experience for your CV and an introduction to an engineering role in industry. A mentor will be there to guide you through your placement year. The following training will be provided;

  • 4 x 1 day workshops through an external training provider: Adapting to Professional Environments, Effective Communication and Presentation Skills, Team Work, Customer Care
  • Internal Placement and Graduate Networks
  • IMechE mentor to support working towards professional status via MPDS scheme
  • Training in role specific tools and skills as appropriate
  • Familiarisation and working with established departmental practices and procedures
