The Avery Dennison Label and Graphic Materials division produces print receptive coatings. As an intern, you will be taking part in a project which is aimed at developing new coatings. The candidate is expected to support the technical leader of the project (development scientist) by producing scaled and analytical laboratory work.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Synthesis and characterization of polymers on a lab-scale
  • Analyze physical and chemical properties according to the project test protocols
  • Perform standard application tests in order to correlate the performance of the final product with the polymer structure
  • Perform statistical analysis on the obtained results

The preferred start date is October 1st, 2022. The ideal candidate is available 5 days a week for 6-9 months. The location of the position is our European Headquarters in Oegstgeest. The internship can be done remotely for up to 3 days per week.

Qualifications

What kind of candidate are we looking for?

  • Someone currently following a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Engineering with a focus on the synthesis and materials characterization, or any related studies in a Dutch university
  • Someone who is highly motivated and a creative thinker, who can work and report in English (knowledge of Dutch is a plus)
  • Someone with prior lab experience in laboratory synthesis of organic molecules and polymers
  • Someone with the ability to perform tests on the major instrument techniques (such as FTIR, GPC,...) and to conduct laboratory experiments with minimal supervision with the utmost regard to safety
  • Someone who is safe-oriented, fast-learner, and has the ability to follow established experimental protocols
  • Somone proactive to take the lead, independent to take full responsibility of the lab work, and a team worker to network and communicate in a global R&D organization
