The Position

The R&D analysis department develops and performs chemical and biochemical analyses for all DSM's Life Sciences business groups. It supports and advises internal customers in the research and development of new processes and products, market questions and troubleshooting.

The key areas of accountability/responsibilities:

  • You are both scientifically and hands-on involved in the development of new chromatographic methods including sample preparation for a broad range of chemical and biochemical products in different complex biological matrices.
  • You work together and share knowledge with co-workers and are able to translate questions from R&D projects into analytical solutions.

The Ideal

  • We are looking for someone with a Master degree in analytical chemistry or organic chemistry, having fundamental chromatography knowledge (preferable both liquid – and gas chromatography).
  • You have proven hands-on experience in liquid (and/or gas) chromatography and related detected techniques (e.g. FID, UV and MS) and sample preparation techniques for the analysis of small bio molecules, such as metabolites and antibiotics, in biological matrices.
  • With regard to mass spectrometry, you are familiar with different ionisation techniques, mass spectrometric parameters, structure elucidation using high end mass spectrometers and quantification using triple quadrupole instruments of small bio molecules, such as metabolites, antibiotics and preservatives. Knowledge of other LC detection techniques, such as UV, RI, ELSD, CAD, fluorescence and amperometry (PAD) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Waters and Thermo Instruments together with knowledge of Chromeleon, MassLynx and Empower software is an asset.
  • You are trained to think in molecules in order to select the appropriate chromatographic technique (GC or LC) and detection conditions based on chemical structures and properties of the molecules to be analysed.
  • Furthermore, you have affinity with biotechnology and are a responsible and responsive professional, who considers it a challenge to apply your expertise in an industrial context.
  • Ideally you are a customer oriented team worker with good communication and reporting skills in English, who has good problem-solving abilities, flexibility, eagerness and persuasiveness.
