Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.

What will you do as Test Coordinator Hardware & Function Integration?

From an electric, electronics and function integration perspective, you are the end responsible to make the Lightyear One, and following models, a safe, reliable, efficient and great vehicle to drive according to the market and test requirements.

What are your tasks & responsibilities you ask? Have a look at the bullets below. This will hopefully give you an idea:

  • You are the linking pin between Engineering, Project Management and Testing; sometimes also with Supplier Quality Assurance and Manufacturing. For all Electrical, Electronic systems as well as all integrated Functions.
  • You manage the timely and qualitative input for all testing related items for all EE systems and integration levels.
  • You evaluate that correct parts/systems/SW/functions and test resources are available at test start.
  • You follow up timely and qualitative test execution and reporting. For all Electrical, Electronic systems as well as all integrated Functions.
  • You provide forecasts for future test resources based on discussion with all Engineering and Research teams: capacity, equipment, facilities.
  • Together with your colleague Test Coordinators you drive continuous improvements of test processes and results.
  • You promote new and innovative ways of testing, working together, synergies, technologies, methods. We are a technology company and testing is part of that.

So what does a typical day look like?

You join the daily test meeting with the Test Engineering team to address their issues and ‘pull’ your deliverables in the right direction. Then you look at some Network Architecture requirements in Jama and some signal and function design in Enterprise Architect. With this data in hand you review the Test Requirements of the Propulsion Controller.

Time for a walk to brainstorm about requirements for the next vehicle project with some colleagues during a walk around the Automotive Campus.

You present some bugs the test team found to the Solar Converter development team and together you propose solutions that can be implemented within 6 weeks time.

You have a home-made lunch in our canteen together with your friends from one of our sports clubs to relax a bit.

Then you go to our Test Center to help fix a big bottleneck in the test set up of an efficiency test of our inverters.

Leaving the office after work you meet with some new colleagues for some ‘bitterballen’ and to discuss how to further automate the OTA vehicle usage data coming from our 13 validation vehicles.

About Lightyear

Lightyear is an innovative and progressive scale-up with one mission: clean mobility for everyone, everywhere.

Lightyear originates from the legacy as a multiple world championship of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge® Cruiser Class. Officially established in 2016 by 5 visionaries with the dream to make this groundbreaking technology accessible to everyone, everywhere. In order to accelerate the transition towards a truly sustainable solution for mobility, we believe that it is necessary to completely rethink automotive design by starting from scratch, not limited by industry conventions.

At Lightyear, we all strive for the same goal. We have a team with diverse skill sets and backgrounds; all working tirelessly towards clean mobility for everyone, everywhere. We’re proud of our culture and live up to our core values: think independently, be bold, deliver the change, put people first and take responsibility. Our shared vision is what unites and drives us.

At Lightyear we are building an electric car that charges itself. From our experience at Solar Team Eindhoven, we know this is only possible starting from scratch. At Lightyear we bring together a multidisciplinary team of highly motivated engineers, designers, and visionaries to challenge the status quo. Write the story with us!
