Summer internship 2022

Want to find out what it’s like to work at a global asset manager in Rotterdam, to be part of the fast-paced world of investing, with a pioneer in the field of SI? Our 2022 summer internship program is an eight-to-ten-week internship for students at our global head office in Rotterdam. During the internship, you will be fully immersed in the activities of one of our departments and make a real impact. The program is designed to give you meaningful, fun and challenging experiences, as well as show you what it’s like to be part of Robeco.

Where you’ll work

Summer interns are recruited for the Fundamental Equity, Credits, Quant Research, Sustainable Investing, and Data Science departments. During the application process, you can indicate a preference for one or more of these departments. If invited for interviews, you will be interviewed by people working in those department(s).

  • Fundamental equity investing is where it all started for Robeco and arguably the purest form of investing: people trying to find the most attractive companies to invest in. We base our investment decisions on in-depth fundamental research into businesses, sectors, macroeconomics and trends.
  • Quantitative research is in Robeco’s DNA. It follows a scientific approach to investing aimed at outperforming the market and uncovering hidden relationships in the data using state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Sustainable investing is one of the core strategic pillars of Robeco’s investment approach. We deliver real-world changes by engaging with companies to encourage them to improve their ESG performance and drive research into key areas such as climate change, biodiversity and the UN SDGs.
  • Fixed income investing is where complexity meets creativity. In-depth research and contrarian thinking is key for managing risk and identifying opportunities. The fixed income team invests in company-issued debt across a wide variety of sectors, countries, and ratings, while also considering sustainability and social factors.
  • Data makes the investment world go round. The data science team uncovers insights from large amounts of data and enables investment professionals to make better decisions. Examples include finding smarter execution strategies by analyzing all our trade data, making sense of the latest available data on sustainability, uncovering behavioral biases in our own investment processes and building tools to share such insights.

Position & Requirements

What you’ll do

We’ll give you a hands-on learning experience at Robeco. First, we’ll provide an introduction to Robeco and then some training. After that, you’ll take part in the day-to-day activities of the department you’ve been hired by. Your work could involve a research project, working on several smaller assignments or helping with day-to-day tasks.

Examples of how you could contribute during your internship:

  • Write a white paper on a technology trend and assess which companies are best positioned to benefit from it.
  • Assess how to engage with a group of polluting companies to improve their impact on the world.
  • Improve real-time predictions of the state of the economy using nowcasting.
  • Use new or alternative data sources to identify new factor premiums.
  • Research which suppliers of batteries to electric vehicle producers have good long-term prospects and whose debt might be undervalued.

You will also participate in social activities, meet with senior management, and connect with people outside of your department to build your network.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a new generation of talent to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to our company.

Are you a motivated university student and natural team player, with an affinity with investing and thirst for learning about equity or fixed income investing, quantitative investment strategies, or sustainability? Then this internship is for you. We appreciate quick learners, creative minds and critical thinkers. We aim to recruit a diverse generation of interns in terms of gender, nationality, educational background and personality.

All the internship vacancies at Robeco in Rotterdam are open to students (second-year Bachelor’s and higher) enrolled at a university on at least the first day of their internship. Our interns must also be eligible for a residence permit to do an internship in the Netherlands. This means we can recruit EU citizens studying at a global university or non-EU citizens studying at a Dutch university.

Make sure to include the following information in your application:

- We kindly ask you to send in both a resume and cover letter

- Please inform us about your top three preferred departments as described above.

- Please include your earliest and latest availability for the internship

All applications will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. An assessment and integrity test may be used in the selection procedure.
