When you start working as a commercial trainee, the focus is on developing skills as a trader. In order to grow your experiences quickly, you are in constant negotiation with the customers from the beginning to conclude contracts for transportation of the cargo. It's like an exciting game where you have to be at the roots of developments in the market. Timing is crucial in this respect, deals can last two weeks and sometimes just 2 minutes. Quick decision making and fast calculation skills are vital for these trades.

In the first months you will be trained to get to know the world of shipping thoroughly. This includes acquiring market knowledge and becoming familiar with all terminology. After a few months you will immediately enter the market yourself and start doing real business to gain experience in trading the market. The trainee will be given a 9 to 18 month project where the focus will be on shorter routes and more standardized cargoes, which still contains all the elements of world trade, to enable you to do a lot of deals with relative low risk.

You are involved in price calculations, price negotiations, risk assessments, but also customer relationship management and macro-economic developments. The first year is mainly focused on learning how to do business and achieve success, so that your self-confidence develops. In addition, you follow training courses for your personal development. You will be given responsibilities at the pace you can handle and you will grow further in the organization. After a few years you will be able to set up new businesses yourself, where it is possible that you will be stationed in another country for a certain period of time.

Moving forward in the role as a junior trader, you will constantly try to access the direction for all trading and hedging of your portfolio. In this role you will have full profit and loss responsibility and have high independence within the team. Traders are individually responsible for the global trade positions that includes both cash and futures positions and will be responsible for risk exposure and overall performance results.

As a trainee you will start working in beautiful Geneva, after which you later on get the chance to work in Singapore!

An exclusive selection day will take place in the first quarter of 2022.
