The position

Your responsibilities

In your role as risk engineer you are part of the Plan and Control department at Van Oord assisting the Offshore business unit. Your daily work entails the proactive identification of project threats and opportunities, identifying strategies to effectively treat threats and to realise opportunities that arise within the operating environment. You will be responsible for the implementation of the Van Oord risk methodology, best practices and tools within the business unit. You will be required to facilitate the risk process including the facilitating of various risk workshops and strategic risk discussions internally or with clients and JV partners where necessary. Analysing and reporting on outcomes of risk engagements. Ensure that tender and projects comply with best practices and approved methodologies. You will ensure the delivery of high-quality risks dossiers including quantitative risk analysis to aid decision making during tenders and projects in execution. You will be required to draw on your risk experience to continually improve on the existing risk management practices as the organisation grows and to ensure better decision making within the business unit. Within the Plan & Control department we work on the development and expansion of knowledge in the fields of Planning, Risk, Systems Engineering and Information Management. Your input is expected from your expertise and you can also develop yourself more broadly at the same time.

Job requirements

An experienced risk engineer within a maritime or civils environment. Good working understanding of ISO 31000. Experience with tendering and project execution within an engineering or civils environment. Proficient in the technical, financial and contractual aspects of large infrastructure works. Comfort in working within an engineering team. Able to be a sparring partner for business unit executives on strategic risk-based decision making. Be able to establish a good working connection with risk management peers in other business units to promote and advance the risk discipline within the organisation.Furthermore:

  • Deadline and results driven and able to withstand considerable work pressures;
  • At least a bachelor degree in a civil, technical or commercial field;
  • Experience in quantification of risks and preferably experience with tools such as @risk and probabilistic schedule risk analyses;
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a similar environment;
  • Exposure to writing of EMVI/MEAT plans would be an added advantage;
  • An excellent command of the English language in reading as well as in writing and speaking.
