Internship | Eco-Charging Strategy for a Fleet of Electric Vehicles

Helmond

Full-time

WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE?

The introduction of battery-electric vehicles as transportation means has enabled numerous advantages in terms of harmful gasses emission reduction, noise reduction, fewer mechanical components in the powertrain, among others.

However, challenges also arise in this means of transport, due to this technology being relatively new.

Some of the challenges of this kind of vehicles arise while trying to charge them.

We consider some of the challenges related to charging a complete fleet of electric vehicles. Such an activity requires the scheduling of resources (vehicles and chargers), with real-life constraints (such as number of chargers, availability in the grid power, etc) where a particular goal to fulfil (e.g., guarantee vehicle availability, reduce energy consumption, etc).

The objective of this assignment is to simplify an already-implemented fleet charging strategy. Current strategy is too computationally expensive, which limit its application in a real life scenario. Your concrete tasks are as follows:

  • (quick) Literature review about fleet level charging algorithms.
  • Familiarization with already-implemented algorithm.
  • Design and application of algorithm simplification strategies.
  • Simplified algorithm comparison against baseline version.
  • Reporting.

Note that this assignment corresponds to an internship (durations of a 2-3 months). However, by adding a research component it can be extended to a master thesis or an internship with master thesis.
