QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of professional experience in consulting or professional services, public policy, regulation, legal, external relations or risk management; professional certification in compliance or risk-management is a plus
  • Experience or interest in the public sector and government issues (e.g. public policy, politics, public services, regulation, current affairs, stakeholder engagement)
  • Experience or interest in risk management, corporate governance and risk issues relevant to serving public sector clients (e.g. legal, external relations, security, conflict of interest)
  • Demonstrable intellectual curiosity through professional training, advanced degree or professional impact
  • Proven strong analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to work on complex, sensitive, time-critical and sometimes unfamiliar issues
  • Comfortable with ambiguity in a work setting: ability to address and manage unpredictable outcomes
  • Ability to assess level of adherence to firm policies across different offices and client service teams and report findings to senior leadership
  • Strong organizational skills including process ownership and management
  • Comfort with data analysis, database management and data reporting; proficiency in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Experience in working in diverse geographies from developed economies to emerging markets and fragile environments
  • Outstanding English-language oral communication and listening skills

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You will be based McKinsey’s office in London, Amsterdam or Madrid as a member of our growing community of risk colleagues in Europe.

You will be part of the McKinsey’s Risk function whose mission is to enable McKinsey’s client impact and innovation while managing risks to the firm, our clients, and our people. The function is a highly integrated global team with backgrounds including communications, consulting, diplomacy, government, government affairs and law.

You will report to our global head of public, social & state-linked sector risk, who is based in London. You will also have a close working relationship with the Europe director of risk. You will work closely with the client-serving partners and wider colleagues across the firm’s public, social & state-owned sector client work, with the firm’s board and risk committees, and with other professionals including our communications and legal teams.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will lead the risk function’s work for public, social & state-owned sector (PSSS) clients in Europe across our four “pillars” of our risk model – governance, awareness, advice and assurance – as well as contribute to the function’s work globally.

In this role, you will act a peer counselor to McKinsey partners – including firm, office, practice and client service team leaders – on a wide range of complex, significant risk issues including cases raised to our client service risk committee. You will also act as a global lead subject matter expert on selected major areas of public, social & state-owned sector risk depending on your background and interests.

You will help evolve and shape our approach to risk by providing transparency on risks we face in our work and offices in Europe and beyond, prioritizing actions to address them and leading policy reviews and projects for the firm’s board.

You will act as a focal point for awareness-raising on professional standards and risk in Europe PSSS including learning programs, training and engagements. You will help evolve and implement the firm’s approach to assurance and compliance.
