Description

G-Research develops and maintains an incredibly successful set of research, analysis and real-time platforms used within the quantitative finance arena. We are currently in the middle of transforming these platforms from a suite of mostly in-house enterprise solutions to cloud style distributed systems that leverage the best of open source and third party offerings. Join us and you will be at the centre of this exciting change and will have the opportunity to work with technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Cassandra, .NET Core, Docker, Kubernetes and more as we make the transition. As we evolve our technology we are also evolving the way we work. Innovation happens at the blurry edge of disciplines so we work cross - functionally to generate new ideas and business opportunities.

Joining G-Research as an intern will enable you to develop knowledge of working with successful legacy systems as they are modernised; a highly sought after skill. If you are looking for a standard 9-to-5 role, we aren't right for you. If you're an innovator, intellectually curious, and want to build world class software, then you'll find friends and a home with us.

We are currently seeking the brightest penultimate year Computer Science students to join us for a Summer Internship or Industrial Placement.

Working within a strong and collaborative environment, interning developers take ownership of their project, many of which will be in new research field.s Developers work closely with our quantitative research groups to deliver outstanding data and research resources, and are also responsible for end-to-end design and implementations.

The key responsibilities of our interns include:

  • Enhancing and supporting the existing trade technology platform and associated toolset.
  • Designing and implementing high quality code to work with large data sets.
  • Research on raw data, working with quant teams to ensure data quality and value.
  • Database design and query performance, optimisation enhancements, where possible.
  • Maintaining and enhancing existing infrastructure and data processing tools responsible for regular handling of many significant data feeds.
  • Responding to the ever-changing requirements of the business.

All roles are technically challenging, and require an ability to rapidly adapt to new technologies such that the business's technology advantage is maintained.

We pride ourselves in entrusting our interns to get "stuck in" to their work. After spending your time with us working alongside a dedicated mentor as well as your manager, you will be working on a project that you will fully own and at the end of the internship you will present your project to your team, our Group Heads, and our Chief Technology Officer.

A large proportion of our interns will return to us for graduate roles upon completion of their studies, therefore all successful applications must be in their penultimate year (expecting to graduate in 2019).

What are we looking for?

Successful candidates will be strong, competent and practical software developers. hey should be enthusiastic and have a genuine interst in both software technology and the underlying hardware.

  • Exeprience with an object orientated programming lanuage, preferable C#, Java or C++
  • Appreciation of good software architecture, core programming techniques and data structures
  • Financial experience is useful, but is not required
  • We have a strong preference for applicants who havea lready completed at least one successful internship in Software Development elsewhere
  • Students should be expecting a 1st or a 2:1 in their degree and must have extremely strong pre University education (360 UCAS points or above, not including BTEC).

This position is only open to penultimate year Computer Science or Computer Science with Maths students who are expecting to graduate in 2019. If you are an Imperial College student we are only accepting applications for students who are seeking their 4/6 month placement as part of their MEng degree.
