The Production R&D team at CrossGuard is responsible for not only the development of innovative new plastics production technologies to produce our products, but also for undertaking process design to handle the complexity of cost-effectively making and assembling highly customizable products like the ProGauntlet. Currently we are working on the detailed design of this production system, focusing on developing and testing its capabilities and identifying key issues to be resolved before it is ready to be deployed for production. To assist in this task, we are looking to add a bright, motivated engineer to the team who can undertake detailed research on the system design, as well as help with detailed design, testing and validation of the various parts and tooling methods involved.

Job Overview

In this role you will report to the Head of Product Development.

As a Production R&D Engineer, you will be working front and centre on bringing a novel, disruptive Plastics Production Technology to life. You pay a high level of attention to detail and enjoy solving challenging technical problems. With an affinity for prototyping and tinkering, you love getting your hands dirty and are constantly looking to learn something new. As one of the designers of CrossGuard’s ground-breaking new production system, you will be playing a direct role in the strategic growth of the company as a Production Consultant and Knowledge leader, assisting external clients looking to manufacture complex parts not currently possible/viable with existing manufacturing methods.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with the concept development and detailed design of new machine parts and modular assemblies for CrossGuard’s proprietary production system.
  • Hands-on prototyping and testing involving advanced 3D printing and Urethane casting to help with the iterative design and validation of the tooling technology and processes.
  • Assist with the application of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to optimize the ProGauntlet/client product parts and align with production processes, cost and resource constraints.
  • Undertake research into Smart-Agile Manufacturing, working in tandem with TU Delft researchers, focusing on addressing product complexity and variability for ultra-personalized products, in line with Industry 4.0 principles.

Daily and Monthly Duties.

  • Build prototypes, products, and systems for testing.
  • Design testing procedures and coordinate testing to identify problems and solutions.
  • Document Knowledge developed and communicate to product and concurrent engineering. teams for continuous learning as well as for publication of papers, patent applications, etc.
  • Identify and keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/production/industrial design engineering or related field.
  • Basic solid/surface 3D CAD modelling skills (preferably in Solidworks/Onshape) is a must.
  • Affinity to prototyping and getting hands dirty in order to iterate quickly and improve designs.
  • Motivated and driven, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and analytical problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
  • A solid grasp of data analysis and research methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in mechanical/production engineering or related field.
  • Hands-on experience in Machine design/Tooling technology at any capacity is a plus.
