We believe that to face the challenges of modern society, education needs to cultivate constructive critical thinking. This is why our team is on a mission to help teachers use new, engaging and interactive learning methods in their courses.

Your role and responsibilities:

As a Full Stack Web Developer on our product team, you contribute to our learning tools being used by teachers from the world’s leading universities, by working with modern web technologies. In your work, you’ll collaborate with UX designers, QA testers and a team of exceptional engineers, with expertise ranging from front end to machine learning.

Projects range from building a new tool to add to our suite, to making meaningful iterations on functionality being used by students day in, day out. Our code base is neat, follows best practices from the frameworks in use and is maintained with linters and good test coverage. We peer review code, share our lessons learned in show & tell sessions and celebrate our accomplishments during company updates.

Your work directly contributes to delivering a great user experience to educationalists & students, while they are for example setting up Peer Review assignments or having discussions in our Interactive Documents tool.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience with modern back end and JavaScript frameworks, preferably our primary stack: Ruby on Rails and Ember.js
  • 1+ year of experience with building RESTful, modern web applications
  • Vision for the impact you want to make with your skillset
  • Proactive, honest, and forthcoming attitude towards challenges
  • Love for learning (also new technologies)
  • Drive and focus to make your planning work, while proudly keeping your code clean
  • Ability to communicate with humility and in proficient professional English

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in educational technology
  • Experience in a start or scale-up with a flat structure
  • Contributions to open source projects

What is in it for you?

  • Next to a fitting salary, paid holidays and volunteering days
  • Work with an impact
  • Stock Appreciation Rights
  • Learning and Development budget and paid L&D days
  • Flexible working hours
  • Transport allowance (when work from the office will be the norm)
  • Choice between “bring your own device compensation” or company laptop
  • Swapfiets bicycle subscription
  • Lunch, snacks and drinks provided when back in the office.
  • Weekly remote team activities to keep the spirits high

Why our team?

  • Our mission and ability to impact education - We are a bootstrapped team that is working with some of the top universities worldwide and the ability to prioritize impact on education over short term return on investments.
  • Our open and collaborative culture - We are a positive and curious bunch always hungry to learn more from each other and the world
  • Your opportunity to have real impact - You'll have a lot of freedom and responsibility to impact the high-level direction of the product and company next to our users
