About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Security Analyst to join our team based in Sheffield.

You will conduct vulnerability assessments and monitor systems, networks, databases and Web hosted services for potential system breaches, whilst providing technical expertise and insight to support the information security framework and educate all users and new employees on security requirements and procedures.

Key responsibilities of the role will include but are not limited to:

  • Act as a first line security event analyst by monitoring alarm consoles; provide initial analysis of logs and network traffic; and make security event determinations on alarm severity, escalation, and response routing.
  • Provide first line support handling for security event notifications and incident response processes.
  • Perform vulnerability scanning across FirstGroup infrastructure including websites and endpoints and produce output reports.
  • Develop mitigation and remediation plans based on vulnerability assessment findings.
  • Deliver first level investigation and remediation activities as a member of the Security Incident Response Team. Participate in Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) events: Conduct research and assessments of security events; provide analysis of firewall, IDS, anti-virus and other network sensor produced events; present findings as input to SIRT.
  • Monitor threat and vulnerability news services for any relevant information that may impact installed infrastructure. Analyse reports to understand threat campaign(s) techniques, lateral movements and extract indicators of compromise (IOCs).
  • Create and update security event investigation notes and maintain case data in the Incident Response Management platform.

About you

The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of security & networking technologies, with excellent analytical and problem solving skills. You must be experienced in performing 1st level analysis and interpreting information from Security systems; incident identification/analysis, escalation procedures, and reduction of false-positives with the ability to work effectively on your own initiative.

Expertise & knowledge

  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of ISO27001:2 and information security best practices (identity management, intrusion detection/prevention)
  • Worked in a windows environment
  • Anti-virus and EDR software experience

Technology

  • CompTIA+ Security or equivalent certification
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • Endpoint management solutions
  • Virus protection & other prevention solutions
  • Mobile Device Management
  • Core certified technology skills (essential)
  • Good understanding of networking skills (essential)

Qualifications

  • A University degree level education or equivalent in Information Security, Forensics, or Computer Science;
  • Or at least two (2) years of related experience and/or training in the field of IT security monitoring and analysis, cyber threat analysis, and vulnerability analysis.
  • NVQ and above in relevant subject (essential)
  • ITIL to a foundation level (desirable)
