The Arcadis Geotechnical team are involved in some of the UK’s most high profile, complex and stimulating projects. Our wide-ranging portfolio includes schemes with High Speed 2, Highways England, the Environment Agency, Canal & Rivers Trust and Network Rail.

Key Responsibilities/ Duties:

The successful candidate will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop geotechnical deliverables. This will present an opportunity to develop to become a well-rounded geotechnical professional.

Reporting to the team leader, the role is likely to involve:

  • Preparing geotechnical calculations, specifications (e.g. GI, etc.), reports (e.g. Desk Studies, GIR, GDR etc.) and drawings in line with project and legislation requirements.
  • Managing selected small projects or components of large projects, taking accountability for their work, and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications.
  • Leading their own technical and professional development, supported by the team’s more experienced members.

Qualifications

  • MSc / MEng Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical bias.
  • Progressing towards becoming a Chartered Engineer or Chartered Geologist.
  • Full UK driving License.

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Enthusiastic and supportive team member. Adept at working within a large multi-discipline team.
  • Experienced in earthworks design and using geotechnical software for slope stability (such as SLOPE/W) and settlement (pdisp); plaxis experience would be beneficial. Understanding of ground movement assessments, damage assessments, earthworks specifications and instrumentation and monitoring. Understanding and/or experience of design for foundations (shallow and piled) and retaining walls. Experience of relevant British standards and Eurocode and their use within design.
  • Experience of developing ground models and assessing existing risks and solutions related to ground activities. Competent in the evaluation and interpretation of ground investigation data. Experienced in using Holebase SI. Beneficial to have experience in GIS and CAD.
  • Strong technical report writing with clear verbal communication skills. Capable of presenting ideas and working collaboratively within the team and with multi-disciplinary clients. Proficient user of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Able to lead the development of technical submissions with key accountability for their own design. Capable of efficiently undertaking geotechnical tasks, managing their own delivery with minor supervision to time, budget and quality.
  • Awareness of health and safety (CDM 2015), commercial and contractual risks.
