Job Description

As a Ground Investigation Engineer, you will be an integrated member of our UK-wide Site Evaluation and Restoration team, collating and managing site and laboratory data, undertaking site and task management, and reporting on a wide range of ground investigation projects. Working as part of our Ground Investigation Contracting capability you will support clients across sectors but with a focus on infrastructure such as rail, highways, and waterways by conducting a variety of different tasks including ground investigation management, supervision and technical report writing. A high proportion of the work will be spent on client sites, providing site investigation services.

We are looking for an established ground investigation practitioner from a consultancy or contractor background, who is looking for their next step in their career. As a part of our ground investigation capability you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and sectors and there will be some opportunity to broaden your skills within our engineering geology and geo-environmental consultancy teams.

Your day to day role will be:

  • You will work with the Ground Investigation Supervisor and Lead Site Assurance Engineer, shall liaison on behalf of ASC with EKFB’s and HS2’s GI teams to understand the following
  • Land Access requirements –engagement with EKFB and HS2 is required to identify locations where access may be problematic
  • Environmental Consents – engagement with EKFB and HS2 is required to identify locations where access may be problematic
  • Presence of overhead and underground utilities within the working area of the GI – engagement with EKFB and HS2 is required to identify locations where access may be problematic
  • The Site Assurance Engineer shall ensure that they and all members of the GI Assurance Team comply with the health, safety and wellbeing requirements implemented by ASC and EKFB at all times, and shall have HS&W at the forefront of all site activities.
  • Development of a GI Management Plan & Works Schedule
  • Assurance of the pre-entry and post fieldwork record of condition process and agreement on reinstatement works required on completion of fieldwork
  • Assurance to ensure that all required licences and certificates are current and are provided for all plant and equipment used and only competent operators and staff are employed on the site
  • Provide feedback to EKFB on the GI programme and lookahead schedules. Provide feedback to the design teams with respect to delays or change that may impact the detailed design programme.
  • Provision of requirements for all GI position locations, depth, instu testing, installations and instruments
  • Quality Assurance – inspection of equipment and tools and calibration certificates where required, review and auditing of the field records and preliminary test data and check logging of samples and cores recovered during the GI works
  • Enable the scheduling of laboratory tests and review and auditing of the results as appropriate
  • Review of EKFB and their sub-contractors’ Risk Assessments and Method Statements

Requirements

  • BSc qualified (or higher) in Geology, or equivalent Earth Science
  • CSCS card holder, SSSTS or similar and PTS certification is preferred but not essential.
  • A good level of experience of working on ground investigation projects, specifically geotechnical & / or contaminated land investigation projects
  • Strong geology and geotechnical capability, including rock logging experience and knowledge of environmental testing
  • Experience of working on site and supervising contractors, in particular - drilling, specialist insitu testing and geophysical contractors
  • An awareness of hazards, risk management & CDM 2015 H&S requirements associated with GI.
  • Previous experience of working with project technical governance and assurance processes
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with multi-discplinary teams and build effective working relationships with people at all levels both internally and externally
