EMEA Trade Compliance is responsible for the strategic development, implementation and monitoring of a standardized trade compliance program to support Medtronic in the international flow of goods in accordance to customs laws and regulations, which control the export and import of goods, products, information and technology between countries.

In the Trade Compliance Program Manager role, your primary responsibility is to execute strategic import/export trade operations initiatives for the EMEA region, supporting the Middle East and Africa, while ensuring all applicable company policies and Customs regulations in all jurisdictions are met, while managing the expeditious flow of international trade.

A Day in the Life

In this role you will be part of the EMEA Trade Compliance team. You will be working in a broad network of stakeholders in the region to understand their strategies and support defining TC strategy/objectives to enable or support these business objectives.

Your main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Develop cross-functional relationships within the corporation to ensure alignment and drive strategic initiatives, including Business partners, Global Trade Compliance, Enterprise Trade Operations, Regulatory, Tax/VAT, Quality, Finance and IT.
  • Single point of contact for Trade escalations by Logistics operations teams within the Emerging Markets
  • Support management of local Brokers
  • Develop, implement and maintain standard metrics system to measure, analyze and drive trade compliance
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations for the organization (HS classification, valuation, origin declaration, monitoring documentation, etc.)
  • Manage relationships with local government and provide productive, timely and accurate responses to inquiries by government regulators.
  • Conduct internal global trade compliance audits across EMEA Medtronic facilities (including: Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, South Africa, Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Kazakhstan and any new country added to portfolio in this region) to identify compliance risks; develop metrics and conduct data analysis to report department compliance metrics.
  • Create training materials and guidance to the Region on the substantive areas of expertise in alignment with global training.
  • Managing any local regulator trade audits and/or investigations
  • EMEA stakeholder in development of global trade compliance policies and support Regional Trade Compliance team to develop and implement local trade operations procedures.
  • Collaboration with the Medtronic Enterprise Trade Team, Global Trade Compliance on trade compliance program initiatives and Regional execution of trade compliance program elements
  • Support projects as a subject matter expert (SME) for Trade including Regional Mergers, Acquisition and JV stakeholder
  • Provide input on regional trade regulations and requirements as EMEA stakeholder for IT Global Trade Management Systems (GTMS) project
  • Identify potential process gaps and develop and implement controls through a Trade Corrective Action Plan (TCAP)
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Do you have what it takes

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of relevant experience with an advanced degree preferably with a focus on EMEA and/or Emerging Markets Region
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (Displays effective verbal and written communication on all levels)
  • Stakeholder management
  • Ability to work in complex organization
  • Proven analytical, problem solving and decision-making proficiency
  • Experienced in working with ERP – preferably SAP – and trade compliance software

To be successful in this role you recognize yourself as

  • Experienced in import and export trade operations and trade compliance, knowledgeable in trade regulations (preferably focus on Europe, Middle East and Africa)
  • Having the ability to inform, train, and guide colleagues on trade compliance requirements, such as providing input and guidance as a subject matter expert in trade as a stakeholder in large projects and training team members on new customs requirements.
  • Having the ability to identify trade risk to ensure trade compliance
  • Experienced in HS classification
  • Someone who excels in time management, prioritization and is self-motivated to learn and navigate through a large complex global company
