Key responsibilities

The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) is strongly focused on acquiring grants to support our research. To facilitate our scientists, we are looking for a grant advisor. In strong collaboration with the management team of the institute, your colleagues of the LIACS project office, and relevant university departments, such as Luris (the Technology Transfer Office) and the financial department you help to realize the funding strategy and ambitions. Your tasks include:

  • Monitoring funding opportunities of all relevant funding agencies, in close collaboration with Luris;
  • Identifying calls that fit with research areas within LIACS, and actively matching scientists to open calls;
  • Helping and advising in consortium building;
  • Coordinating the grant applications, advising and coaching scientists, helping in writing the non-scientific parts of proposals;
  • If a grant is awarded, you collaborate with the project manager at LIACS to get projects started;
  • Developing and maintaining a relevant professional network to facilitate a successful funding strategy;
  • Shaping and implementing grant procedures;
  • Advising the management team on strategical matters regarding research grants

Selection criteria

  • You have an academic background, preferably a PhD, in one of the exact sciences;
  • Strong analytical skills, organized, able to keep track of multiple projects at the same time;
  • Excellent advising skills and an eye for people;
  • You have the flexibility and stress-resistance needed to make the call deadline;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in grant application and advising in externally funded projects;
  • An excellent command of English; Dutch is highly preferred;

The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) is the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Institute in the Faculty of Science of Leiden University. Terms and conditions

We offer a full-time permanent position for initially one year. After a positive evaluation, the appointment will be extended to a regular position. Salary range from € 3.746,- to € 5.826,- gross per month (pay scale 11 to 12 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). Salary classification takes place on the basis of experience and growth opportunities.
