Traineeship in Legal Affairs

The Unit for Legal Affairs provides legal advice and support to the Agency on all issues having legal implications. It verifies that ECHA's regulatory and administrative procedures and decisions are legally sound and consistent. It is in charge of defending ECHA’s interest in any appeal or court proceedings. It ensures that ECHA's intellectual property rights are respected and coordinates the management of complaints and requests to access documents.

Trainee Assignment

In this traineeship you will have the opportunity to participate in the activities of the Legal Affairs unit. The traineeship will provide you with a unique insight on the working of an EU Agency as well as the opportunity to experience how legal support and assistance is provided, the tasks of the legal advisors and the mode of operation of the legal unit inside an EU Agency. You will be assigned specific tasks such as:

  • conducting research in legal journals and case-law
  • providing summaries and analysis of legal texts
  • standardising and advising on terms and conditions and/or contractual clauses
  • performing ad hoc tasks according to the needs of the Unit

Trainee profile

To be successful in this traineeship you must have:

  • a background in law
  • knowledge of EU law
  • strong analytical and research skills
  • a sense of commitment and responsibility

It would be an additional asset if you had an interest in and/or experience with legal issues surrounding data management and databases.
