About us

With 80.000 talents working in 68 countries, we are one of the biggest high-tech employers in the field of safety and security. In the Netherlands, where 2000 employees are based, we are located in four cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven and Hengelo (HQ). Together with an extensive ecosystem of knowledge partners, customers and suppliers, we work on radars for naval vessels, cyber security solutions, transportation systems, communication equipment for land forces, cryogenic cooling solutions, research & development for radar tech (in collaboration with TU Delft).

The software department of the Application Engineering cluster is responsible for the software development in Combat Management and Radar- and Optical sensors for worldwide navies- and defense systems. The work is performed in multi-disciplinary agile teams with specialists in software/system/test engineering and functional design.

TACTICOS is developed in a continuous integration environment. Every night all its components are automatically unit tested. Also the complete TACTICOS system is tested using the HMI with Rational Functional Tester (RFT).

The use of RFT and changing test strategies over time increased the complexity and maintenance effort for existing and new tests. To reduce this effort, a restructuring of the current test code is desired.

About the assignment

Develop a new test framework that provides the following improvements:

  • Make test scenarios independent of test application or framework (RFT, Fest-Swing…)
  • Provide building blocks to create scenarios with limited programming knowledge/effort.
  • Enable flexible timing control for individual test steps.
  • Report test results in structured format that supports easy fault analysis (XML/HTML -based)

Within this assignment you will develop a prototype of a test framework to demonstrate the new test features. After validation a migration path is to be provided to convert the existing test suite to the new framework and implemented for a single application.

You will get input from experts at Thales and use rapid prototyping (using Kanban) to create working software for us to ‘play’ with.
