Job purpose

The App Store & Dev Kit team is a one-stop-shop within Liberty Global for browser-based applications developed for our new generation Set-top Box platform and our legacy Set-top Boxes within the digital video product domain across Liberty Global’s footprint.

The TV Applications Technical Lead is responsible for driving our application platform and SDK into the new decade. With the CPE and product teams, this person is responsible for making our application platform attractive for application builders and will align with partners in the field to achieve this goal.

The technical lead will be working in a small team with a clear can do and self-employed attitude. Work will be from architecture to implementation and this person will be involved from start to end of a project.

The technical lead has the drive to inspire, motivate and help teams to operate as optimal as possible. Able to deep-dive into technical problems and to resolve complications quickly in a constructive way. Comfortable working in an agile/scrum environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Take the lead in defining, designing and developing an Entertainment CPE Apps Store framework and Development Kit.
  • Define and document high-level architecture. Define technical design goals and make trade-offs among these as necessary. Liaise with the different architecture teams to cover the full end2end architecture for apps and frameworks.
  • Research the technology landscape surroundings for CPE application development and drive the technical roadmap for apps, frameworks and store.
  • Write and maintain technical guidelines for application developments.
  • Provide quick analysis and potential problem solutions for apps related to bugs.
  • Coach application developers both internal as well as external on the technical aspects of building applications for the different platforms within LG.
  • Address technical risks and validate the high-level architecture via research and prototyping
  • Execute proof of concepts (POC).

Preferred education/ qualifications

  • MSc degree level in computer science / software development
  • Fluent spoken and written English – ideally other European languages
  • Experience in applying both Waterfall and Agile development approach
  • Self-disciplined, pragmatic, result-driven and a strong team player.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as strong presentation skills

Knowledge & Experience

  • 5+ Years in JavaScript ECMAScript 2015 (6), Node.js (7), REST, HTML5/CSS3.
  • Video protocols like Progressive (MP4), MPEG-Dash, HSS and HLS
  • Digital Rights Management (DRM) like Playready and Widevine
  • Video JS players in combination with MSE (Media Source Extensions) and EME (Encrypted Media Extensions)
  • Chrome Developer tools / WebInspector
  • RDK
  • Webkit Wayland/WPE
  • GStreamer
  • WebGL
