The Publishing department in Elsevier is responsible for publishing over 2500 journals and more than half a million articles are transitioning towards a data-driven organization, increasingly providing publishers and marketing managers with data insights shaping journal strategies. For this we are hiring a Data & Reporting Analyst to join the Reporting & Data Analytics team. The purpose of this role will be to create, improve and enhance reports, dashboards and analyses that support publishers, publishing management and supporting departments to improve insights and effectiveness. This will be done by combining a wide variety of quantitative and qualitative data sources from within and outside of Elsevier and translating them into actionable insights via reports, dashboards or analyses.

We are now looking for a Data and Reporting Analyst to come and support our team in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

What you are great at:

Data Analyses

  • Because you combine quantitative and qualitative research methods into delivery-focused reports
  • Understand the mechanics of data integration and data engineering
  • Undertake analyses using a variety of tools, methods and techniques, for identification of trends, outliers, anomaly identification, etc.
  • Identify quantitative and qualitative data sources to enable the delivery of insight, utilize data inquisitiveness and expertise
  • Undertake analysis using a range of statistical modeling techniques as different analyses require
  • Provide business stakeholders with relevant analysis and support them throughout the decision-making process
  • Once anomalies identified use root cause analysis tools and techniques to identify the cause and then assign owners for improvement investigation/action
  • Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure corrective action is taken to address anomalies ensuring issue resolution completed and effect confirmation tracked
  • Provide ad hoc analysis as per management/stakeholder requirements

Data Visualisation and Reporting

  • Because you can ensure delivery of reports/ dashboards/ BI structures that meet business stakeholder requirements and facilitate ongoing trend analysis
  • Define best-fit reports/ dashboards for business use cases
  • Present analysis and insights in engaging and easily understood ways (using tools such as Tableau)
  • Influence and support fellow analysts with problem resolution and the creation of documentation

Data quality and consistency

  • Because you can ensure continued data governance (quality, integrity, completeness, timeliness, etc., such that all reports/ dashboards and analyses are trustworthy and reliable
  • Support the Product manager in any endeavors to improve data quality and consistency in reports and dashboards
  • Become an influencer with and motivate all stakeholders to emphasize the importance of data quality for trustworthy and reliable insights
  • Actively participate in documenting data definitions

Project participation

  • Because you can identify, and, as required implement/ project manage, continuous improvement analytical projects to deliver improvements to business processes and insight
  • Size and deliver detailed documentation to assist project/ program managers to develop project plans and resourcing profiles
  • Coordinate multiple stakeholders and ambitious schedules to high-quality outcomes
  • Motivate and support diverse teams providing a clear understanding of how business change/ analytics/ data projects fit within the wider organization and strategy
  • Participate in projects where Analytics, Business Analysis, Business Intelligence expertise and/ or development is required (coaching/mentoring others)

What you should bring

  • A BS or BA degree (BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Engineering or Statistics are ideal)
  • Data management literacy essential, particularly data quality
  • Data blending experience required in joining and transforming complex data into an analysis-ready dataset.
  • Statistical analysis and modeling techniques and their uses. Ability to use advanced tools such as Python and R
  • Data visualization experience essential, knowledge of visualization tools especially Tableau
  • Experience of working with AWS tools would be an advantage
  • Experience of SQL, Python, Tableau, Databricks (Spark)
  • Understanding of cultural differences with the ability to interact appropriately with stakeholders and direct colleagues across the globe
