Tasks and responsibilities

As a Senior Product Software Engineer you are responsible and have vital role in helping the team operate as best as possible, in terms of software solution delivery and support. You will be playing a leading role in the design decisions, implementation and coordination of the development and quality assurance. Therefore, you need to be willing to learn and become an expert in certain disciplines and technologies in order to take decisions on solutions architecture, implementation and training others. Collaboration and communication skills are essential in this role. You'll need to translate business requirements into actionable tasks and clearly communicate with developers and management. The team you are joining is distributed across Netherlands (Alphen), US (NY) and East-Europe (Hungary, Belarus).

There are several projects that the team owns or is actively involved in, such as:

  • Design and implement well-defined APIs and maintain them with backward compatible enhancements
  • Develop micro-services to support these APIs, generally implemented in Java and/or cloud-native managed services
  • Implementing tools, libraries, cross-cutting functionality like OAuth integration and Analytics
  • Develop micro-services deployment platforms that integrates well with the Wolters Kluwer tools ecosystem in terms of security, monitoring, logs, alerting, disaster recovery etc.

Every member of the team is involved to a certain degree in the full life-cycle of software-development:

  • Requirements clarifications, often the users of the service are internal developer teams
  • Architecture decisions, both as owner and stakeholder of such decisions
  • Code implementation, testing & review of team's code
  • Deployment, generally via automated processes
  • Writing & maintaining solution documentation
  • Incident response, during office-hours, when a service you are working on is experiencing PROD issues
  • Training or helping colleagues within technologies or services that the team owns

Your profile

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience, from a four-year college or university, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Hands on experience with Java, GIT and Docker
  • Experience with other languages such as JavaScript, .Net, Go is a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical decisions and their rationales to development teams and business stakeholders
  • Experience in leading small development teams a plus
  • Experience with cloud services, AWS, Azure, GCP is a plus
  • Desire and ability to thrive in a distributed technical environment while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Passionate about latest trends in service-oriented technology with a strong desire for innovation
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
