What are you going to do?

If autonomous driving of cars and trucks will be our common future, how would the intelligent manufacturing of our customers look like? You will be leading in setting the agenda for technology developments. Bringing new technologies to the business of our customers is your goal. Frequent customer contact is part of this position, as well as building up a relevant network within the industry. You will lead the market introductions of new products. For example: Lyla and M-Line.

As a R&D Manager you are highly motivated to discover and translate business needs into applications with a healthy ROI. The ability to convince demanding customers and the internal organization of AWL globally are key to be successful in executing the R&D Roadmap with your team.

At our site in Harderwijk, a highly motivated Research & Development (R&D) team develops advanced new technologies and enables innovations for leading-edge applications and new product launches. It is your responsibility to develop the R&D team as part of our global organization. You will implement, manage and improve the quality of the R&D processes and activities. You will take care for effective cooperation in the chain with Marketing & Communication, Sales, and Operations, globally.

The R&D team is multidisciplinary and consist out of approx. 30 professionals with a specialism in robotics, IT software, vision, and welding technologies. In our technology roadmap, we have defined product lines. For each product line, we have assigned product owners who will lead the development teams in their product developments. Collaboration and interaction with our customer are key for realizing developments. Product Managers are in charge of achieving this and alignment of the commercial approach. Our Experience Center is part of R&D and the place for prototyping, testing, and demonstrating new developments.

Key Accountabilities

  • Set the agenda and roadmap for technology developments;
  • Understanding our customers’ developments, needs and business drivers;
  • Managing and coaching development teams and R&D professionals;
  • Monitoring project execution of new application a/o software developments;
  • Close collaboration with international development partners and launching customers;
  • Leading development of our product portfolio and launching new products into the market;
  • Maintenance and continuous improvement of existing product portfolio;
  • Leveraging expertise inside and outside the organization to deliver product and process developments.

What do we expect from you?

  • Passion for creativity and innovation within a commercial environment;
  • Significant project management experience, especially in product development;
  • Good understanding/appreciation of the broader business environment and application of technical and commercial knowledge during project execution;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships within a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Experienced in coaching and leading of teams and professionals;
  • Quickly analyses complex problems to find actionable pragmatic solutions and constructive action plan;
  • Proven experience in product development a/o project management;
  • You have a technical degree and knowledge of our applied techniques and a business management degree is a pre;
  • You are willing to travel abroad regularly.
