This position requires quite a bit of experience, but you can also learn as you go, getting help from some very knowledgeable colleagues. You will never ever stop learning, and rarely get bored anyway, there's simply too much to do for that.

You will get the keys to the castle, meaning you'll work very closely with the rest of the team, because we break things all the time, this is how we learn and move fast. Break, repair twice as fast, fail better next time, and communicate so the learnings are profitable to everyone.

The whole stack runs on AWS, and we use things like:

  • Amazon Redshift and Redshift Spectrum
  • Apache Airflow
  • Many GNU/Linux machines (Amazon Linux & Ubuntu)
  • Docker on ECS Fargate
  • Apache Spark
  • MySQL and Postgres databases (RDS & EC2)
  • AWS Database Migration Service
  • Cloudformation and Ansible
  • Gitlab CI/CD
  • Grafana and InfluxDB

Your profile

You will have to be creative every day, to listen to the users and figure out what they really need to do, in order to cut the right corners and sometimes implement things that work today instead of better things that may work tomorrow.

You will work in a young multi-national team, so excellent spoken and written English is absolutely mandatory. You won't stay isolated behind a screen, the most important part of the job is done in relation to others, so you have to like interacting with people and listening to them.

You're both curious and daring, willing to learn and share, with a cool head when things go wrong? You are already based in or around Amsterdam? You're the one we need.

What you would ideally know:

  • All things AWS, of course. But experience with a different cloud provider is OK
  • Data warehousing tools: in particular MPP data stores, ideally Redshift
  • Networking: VPCs, routing, network security and troubleshooting, DNS, VPNs and tunnels
  • Systems: from tuning a kernel to automating apt configuration to troubleshooting a Docker container, you know how to go deep when needed
  • Monitoring: you know what matters and how to keep alerts relevant and extensive
  • Databases: you can manage MySQL and Postgres efficiently and possibly tune it so it runs even better
  • Automation: we're trying to reach a clean state of Infra as Code, you've been there before or you're willing to learn
  • Load balancing, proxies, encryption: everything that talks to the outside world needs a bit of creativity
  • Coding: we run on Python because it's ubiquitous, you can learn it but mastering it is on the roadmap
  • Java is in some parts of our stack, Scala is on the horizon, better be at least familiar with it

Our offer

  • Work in a fast-growing company
  • Being part of an awesome, young, professional and international team
  • A competitive salary
  • Custom workstations/laptops
  • Internal as well as external schoolings and conferences
  • Fresh fruits every day
  • Awesome (global) team events like the summer party, skiing trip and more!
