What will you do as Power Electronics Engineer?You are starting your day with a challenge and will take actions upon the design, verification and testing of the motor inverter and solar conversion module. Your days will be split by having hands-on work in the Electronics Lab including documenting tests and results but also guiding the responsible System Architect towards design choices. 

At Lightyear we’ve developed several domains which is a group of talented people that get allocated to particular (sub-)systems as part of Lightyear One. As Power Electronics Engineer you’ll be part of the Power Electronics domain where you primarily focus on both our motor inverter (as part of the in-wheel motors) and the solar conversion module. It’s your responsibility to verify the design independently while making use of your knowledge and skills in order to measure the correct parameters and iterate this into a more advanced design.

What do we expect from a Power Electronics Engineers at Lightyear?In order to succeed in the dynamic world of Lightyear pro-activity, professionalism, communication and adaptability are crucial. In addition, we are looking for people with an ambitious attitude who learn from the past (tried and tested) and who strive to set new standards when needed.

  • A Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering or related
  • At least 5 years of experience in the field of Power Electronics within a high-tech environment
  • Experience with independently designing the power stage of a piece of electronics given a set of requirements
  • Experience in deciding on a topology, choose or design the required components and create a schematic overview
  • Experience in reading and understanding relevant norms, like UNECE R10, R100 or IEC 60664 and you’re able to apply these norms into your designs
  • You consider yourself a self-starter, a strong communicator and you’re willing to work in a highly passionate inter-cultural environment
  • Skilled in working with schematic tools (e.g. Altium, Orcad, Eagle), experience in PCB layout is a plus
  • Available for 40 hours per week
  • Fluent in English is mandatory (Dutch and German is a plus)
