Description

Cummins are now recruiting for our 2020 intake of 12 month placements in the UK, whichprovide a meaningful opportunity for university students to accomplish real-world projects in a professional environment.

If successful on the programme you may be given the opportunity to work part-time during your final year of study and/or be offered the opportunity to return as a graduate.

This role will include the following responsibilities :-

1.Support the Cummins Value Package Introduction Process used to bring new engine and aftertreatment systems to market.

2.Work as part of a team to complete activities such as catalyst and hardware selection, performance evaluation, mapping and proof of concept testing, control system & diagnostic tuning and field test data analysis (exact spread of activities will depend on where we are in a development cycle during your placement).

3.Support similar activities as required for current product improvements or issue resolution.

4.Interpret internal and external standards and procedures to define system requirements, test requirements and methods.

5.Procure and manage prototype and controls lab inventory and manage shipment of parts between different test facilities.

6.Work with Test Operations function to produce test instructions, scripts and logging files for engine dynamometer testing and pilot vehicle testing.

7.Troubleshoot test cell issues including hardware, test sequence and scripting, instructions and test procedures and provide both short- and long-term solutions.

8.Analyse test cell, pilot vehicle and field test data to evaluate hardware and software performance for a variety of different test types and scenarios.

9.Support cross functional design reviews for hardware, software and diagnostic tuning by providing review packs, including requirements definition, tuning rationale and test results and participating in the review meetings.

10.Simulate diagnostic and control system performance using Simulink, Matlab and HIL test benches to evaluate tuning decisions and calibration robustness, as well as evaluating sensor and actuator performance.

11.Support occasional vehicle testing, including logging data on both stationary and mobile testing.

12.Learn about development and performance testing of the Euro VI and Stage V diesel engine aftertreatment systems produced by Cummins.

13.This role is hands-on, you will be given the opportunity to carry out testing and support operators in equipment installation and trouble shooting.

Qualifications

  1. Studying BEng or MEng in Mechanical, Automotive, Chemical or equivalent Engineering discipline – appropriate scientific degrees also considered (e.g. Physics).
  2. Good knowledge of Matlab & MS office (excel and word).
  3. Methodical and data-based approach to problem solving.
  4. Strong team working skills.
  5. Knowledge of diesel engine architecture an advantage but not essential – training will be provided.
