Student Placement

At Lubrizol, we have a growing student community in the UK with over 30 placements each year across a number of roles. Tribology is a section of engineering which you may not have come across before, tribology is the study of friction and wear between two working components and at Lubrizol we create lubricants to reduce the negative impact of this, therefore your time will be split between a lab environment and the mechanical testing department.

What you will be doing:

  • Liaising with your colleagues in your department, commercial areas, research groups and in the US
  • Learning how to develop and perform tests on a variety of components and metallurgy from leading European vehicle manufacturers
  • Designing, developing and performing tests on a variety of wear and friction testing equipment to simulate engines and transmissions. This may include a combination of systems development, test software development, implementation of new tests, and performing analysis and present on conclusions from these tests
  • Managing priorities effectively to ensure work is finished on time

What you will need:

  • Studying towards an automotive or mechanical engineering related degree involving a year in industry, achieving a 2:1 or above
  • Achieved grade C or above in A Level Math or Physics
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to be able to liaise with a range of people across many departments
  • Able to work effectively within a team as well as independently on projects
  • A keen interest in mechanical engineering, work experience with engines is preferable
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Programmes
