Interpreting this is vital to the success of our investigations; therefore we have a dedicated team of data analyst experts. Our structured two year programme covers the first part of this career path, placing you at the heart of MI5 investigations and training you up to use advanced data analytical techniques.

STARTING SALARY

£31,807

Our starting salary is £31,807, rising to £34,385 after the first year.

Training and Mentoring

We have to make sure that our analysts have the knowledge and skills to answer the many diverse questions we receive. This team sets new analysts on the right development pathway, explaining how analysis operates in MI5 and introducing our tools and techniques. Supporting the continuing development and expanding skills of experienced analysts is an increasingly important area too.

Promotion

A career within analysis is varied and should consist of a number of analysis postings in different investigative areas. After promotion you will be expected to complete at least the equivalent of one full post (3 years), after which you can continue to explore other aspects of analysis.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR

For this programme, we require you to have a 2:2 degree or equivalent work experience. Some people join us straight after graduation, while others have previous relevant experience. Whatever your background, you need to prove you can interrogate large data sets, evaluate the reliability of your findings and communicate them clearly.

MI5 currently employs around 4,000 people. Around 40% of staff are women, just over half are under 40 years old, 8% are from black or ethnic minority backgrounds and 3% have a disability.
At any time, several hundred staff may work in MI5 on secondment or attachment from other government departments and agencies.
