Responsibilities

What does our Graduate Engineer Programme look like?

As an Arriva Engineering Graduate, you’ll complete a 24-month programme which is designed to develop your skillset in order to become one of our future leaders. During the programme, you will be given exposure into different business areas through strategic rotations, giving you a unique insight into our business and allowing you to work with a range of our inspiring leaders across the business.

This is a fast paced, hands on role where you will be exposed to the grass roots level of engineering straight away; real world, real time engineering whilst at the same time developing unparalleled managerial skills.

Working as an Engineering Graduate you’ll be exposed to all aspects of the business, spending time on the shop floor repairing trains, learning the ropes of supervising the workshop, agreeing budgets, allocating and planning work, all whilst dealing with external and internal stakeholders

The type of projects, tasks, rotations and responsibilities that you will take on during the programme are vast but will include:

  • Gaining an experience of our fleet – spending time at depots to work on refurbishment and modifications of trains
  • Timetabling and Diagramming – Amending timetables to suit Arriva’s business needs or planning for special events
  • Working with our drivers and instructors to gain an insight into how a train is operated
  • Spending time within different departments, including; Customer Service, Commercial, Finance and HR Teams to give you a broader understanding of the Arriva business

Qualifications

What are we looking for?

We are looking for curious and forward-thinking graduates with an Engineering background, who hold a high degree of self-motivation to join our vibrant and well-established Engineering Graduate programme. To be successful in your application to join our Arriva Engineering Graduate Scheme, you’ll need:

  • To have, or be expecting a minimum 2:1 degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably mechanical or automotive
  • To be ambitious – constantly question the norm and provide new ideas
  • The flexibility to be nationally / internationally mobile
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage at all levels internally and externally within a diverse multi-cultural environment.
  • To be results driven with an innovative mindset – as one of our future leaders you’ll need to drive operational excellence.
  • To see feedback and setbacks as opportunities to learn and improve
  • An interest in trains will definitely help!
