The Opportunity:

From working on radiological protection to maintaining chemistry control and safety in our nuclear power stations, designing electrical systems to improving safety or operations, we offer a diverse and fascinating range of 12 month industrial placements.

Taking on a real job at a junior level, you'll have the opportunity to learn through hands'on experience under the guidance of highly skilled and experienced colleagues.

Most of what you learn will be on the job, with support from your mentor and the teams you work in. Some industrial placements come with opportunities for further technical training as needed.

At telephone interview stage, you will be given the option to state three location preferences from the below. We will match successful applicants to plaecments taking location preference in to consideration together with your degree discipline and business needs.

The Location:

You'll be based at one of our Nuclear Power Stations or one of our offices across the UK.

Placements are available at:

  • Aztec House/Bridgewater House, Bristol
  • Barnwood Office, Gloucester
  • Dungeness B Power Station
  • Hartlepool Power Station
  • Heysham 1 Power Station
  • Heysham 2 Power Station
  • Hunterston Power Station
  • Sizewell B Power Station
  • Torness Power Station

It's worth noting that we don't offer relocation help for Industrial Placements. So if the placement you're applying for isn't in your local area, you'll need to be able to cover the cost of moving to and living there yourself.

The Future:

After you've completed your industrial placements, you should know for sure whether you want to be part of the UK's energy future. If all goes well, we hope to see you back at EDF Energy after university, on one of our gradaute programmes.

The Skills:

The successful candidate will have good communication skills, and demonstrate a willingness to learn. They will have an ability to interact within a team environment, display profesionalism within a work setting and have both a questioning and challenging attitude. of key importance is a willingess to get involved with various tasks, and provide support as required.

  • Studying for an engineering or science degree relevant to your chosen placement (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, Aerospace Engineering, Materials, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Maths)
  • On track to achieve or will have already achieved a 2:1 undergraduate degree or 2:2 postgraduate qualification
  • Technical and analytical skills
  • Business acumen
  • Lots of initiative and good people skills
  • Desire to learn and develop new skills
