THE OPPORTUNITY

Spend 10 weeks working on a real project with real responsibilities and give yourself a great head start in your career.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

At Centrica, we keep millions of homes and businesses running and work hard to support the changing needs of our customers. Join us, on our summer placement programme, and you will gain a unique insight into life as a professional engineer with a leading energy and services company.

Areas you could potentially get involved in range from gas processing to electricity generation to gas storage work. So, there will be plenty to get your teeth into and it will take a lot of hard work and initiative on your part. In return you’ll get to develop career-boosting skills and could earn yourself a place on our graduate programme if you really stand out from the crowd.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

We’re looking for penultimate-year MEng students or final-year BEng students who are planning on completing an MEng. You must be:

  • Expecting a minimum 2:1 degree in a suitable mechanical engineering discipline accredited by the relevant professional institute
  • A passionate and creative engineer who can deliver solutions within tight timeframes and implement them safely and successfully
  • In possession of a full UK driving licence, as you may be required to travel to remote locations
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Free to start your internship on Tuesday 23rd June 2020

"There are three shifts driving change in the energy market and in our business: decentralisation of the energy system, customer power and digitalisation. Our strategy means that Centrica can react quickly and flexibly to these changes, and is strongly positioned to meet the needs of our customers, now and in the future."
Iain Conn, Group Chief Executive

These macro-trends are driving changes in the energy landscape:

Decentralisation - Globally, as we pursue lower carbon and more efficient solutions, the energy system is becoming decentralised with more technologies available and viable, close to the customer.

Digitalisation - Technological developments, both physical and digital, are accelerating the pace of change. Capability in these areas is key to keeping up with customers and their changing needs.

Power to the customer - As a result of increased choice and alternatives, the customer is becoming more powerful. Owning the relationship with customers and satisfying their needs is critical to our success.

These trends demand we deliver more decentralised technologies and propositions, stronger digital capabilities, and give our customers a better and more personalised service.
That’s why we’ve put ‘satisfying the changing needs of our customers’ at the heart of our strategy.
