About the role...

Based in our brand new, state-of-the-art offices in Kingston upon Thames, and reporting into the Development Manager, the Lead DevOps Engineer will work as part of a distributed team working across London and India.

This is a hands-on role where you will work with agile development teams to support them in designing, building and operating scalable, resilient and flexible solutions.

About you...

You will be an experienced DevOps Engineer looking for a new challenge. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills that allow you to communicate complex technical ideas to non-technical audiences.

You will be a self-motivated, independent, and a high-performance person, who learns quickly and enjoys worthy challenges. You love to learn so you are on top of the latest technologies and want to share the knowledge with the team. You love to dive into complex issues, and have a sense to anticipate, plan and coordinate DevOps solutions to improve operational efficiency.

  • Take ownership of the tooling that enables teams to build, deploy and monitor applications in production;

  • Creating a culture of shared responsibility by embedding operations skills in development teams;
  • Establish an infrastructure to support build automation across our technical stack;
  • Enable fast and reliable automated testing and continuous integration;
  • Automate and enable low-risk releases;
  • Create a centralised infrastructure that allows us to use telemetry as a guide to problem solving, enabling access to production metrics to guide everyday work
  • Previous experience in a similar DevOps role;
  • A good understanding of code and script;
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service;
  • Experience with automation/configuration management using the latest tools.
  • A detailed understanding of Agile and DevOps concepts and how they can be applied to data-driven SaaS products;
  • Experience of implementing strategies for build, test, deployment and release automation;
  • Experience working as a DevOps Engineer in a 24x7 uptime Microsoft Azure environment;
  • Experience with Docker container orchestration using Azure Service Fabric or Azure Kubernetes Service;
  • Experience of working with build and release stacks that include Azure DevOps, Team City and Octopus;
  • Experience of configuring and deploying Azure resources using ARM templates and Powershell;
  • Experience of working with system monitoring tools within the Microsoft Azure environment including Application Insights and Datadog;
  • Experience of analysing and resolving complex infrastructure and deployment issues in a complex SaaS environment.
  • Programming: familiarity with C# and .Net Core
  • Database: Basic SQL Server administration experience (SQL Azure and SQL Server).
  • Networking: Understanding network topologies and common network protocols and services (DNS, HTTPS, SSH, FTP, SMTP).
  • Enabling access to production metrics to stakeholders through the Azure analytics stack, e.g. PowerBI, stream analytics, Data Factory, SQL Azure, etc.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience working in an environment using the Scaled Agile Framework.
  • Professional commitment to high quality, and a passion for learning new skills.
  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to rapidly learn new concepts and technologies.
  • Strong problem solving skills, including providing simple solutions to complex situations.
