Our Sustainable Strategies and Solutions business provides a focus for advising our clients on sustainability issues including renewable energy, low carbon economies, impacts of climate change and waste and resource management. Our environmental capabilities comprise of in excess of 1000 staff based predominantly in the UK, but with reach into the Middle East and in India.

We currently have an opportunity for three Graduate Environmental Engineers to assist with the analysis of current and future flood risk and in the development of outline and detailed design solutions for flood risk management. The posts are based in our Leeds, Manchester and London offices, but the candidate will be expected to visit our other offices across the UK to collaborate on project work.

The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.

You will be working on projects for Local Authorities, the Environment Agency and some private sector clients and will support other technical disciplines within the company. You will be joining an experienced team specialising in environmental engineering, but we positively encourage the development of complementary technical and project delivery skills and provide opportunities for this where possible.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing hydrology, hydraulics, economic, engineering and spatial data analysis skills
  • Analysis of flooding mechanisms and the causes and consequences of flooding, both desk based and in the field
  • Development of design options
  • Appraisal of options costs and benefits
  • Preparation of technical analysis and notes
  • Working within an established design and appraisal team.
  • Secondary area of skill or interest in one of the following: flood risk management, hydrology or geomorphology

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a good honours degree in civil engineering
  • Enthusiastic about solving problems
  • Prepared to innovate, finding new and improved ways to contribute to project excellence
  • Passionate about customer care
  • Keen to expand your technical capabilities and apply your skills across different sectors
  • A keen interest in natural processes and water related issues
  • Knowledge of hydraulic design and hydrology
  • Knowledge of structural and drainage design processes
  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD and/or GIS
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills
  • The ability to work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team, as well as being willing to work individually
  • You will need to be a team player willing to work away from your base office, with a high level of personal responsibility and adaptable and flexible approach to different project requirements
  • Masters or doctorate in civil engineering
  • Particular experience in flood risk assessment and flood analysis
  • Structural and drainage design experience
  • Holds valid driving licence
  • Secondary area of skill or interest in one of the following: flood risk management, hydrology or geomorphology

Expected start date: September 2020
