The Costain Graduate Development Scheme is an intensive 2-year programme designed to equip high flying graduates with the skills and experience required to take them forward in their career with the company. We expect graduates to rotate after 12 months to another sector of the business. We offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership with an appropriate professional body. Graduates will work on a number of projects around the UK during the 2-year programme, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.

What will I be doing?

As a Graduate Project Controller, you will be responsible for key elements of project delivery, taking a significant role in analysing and reporting progress, spend, and risks, and will acquire technical, leadership and project management skills and experience. This will include undertaking the following tasks:

  • Supporting the project team to develop, and continuously improve, project specific reporting procedures and timescales
  • Working with the relevant Discipline Leads to plan and sequence operations, including writing narratives and justifications to underpin durations, costs and allowances
  • Monitoring physical progress and spend against budgets, producing internal and external reports demonstrating the health of the projects, in line with required project timescales
  • Analysis of reporting data to understand reasons for delay, factoring previous performance into future forecasting, and suggesting delivery efficiencies to the project teams.
  • Present findings in internal/ external progress meetings, as required
  • Support the Commercial department with identifying project change, and quantifying cost/ time impact.
  • Actively promote the PMO & Project Control discipline, both internally and externally
  • Support the development of technology-based solutions, for implementation and integration, with the aim of providing up-to-date digital project control for all projects
