Care is at the heart of everything that we do and this is no different in the service that we provide to clients in our Extra Care Housing Schemes. As a Domiciliary Carer you will work as part of a larger care team and enable clients to lead an independent a lifestyle as possible and what they want.

Zero hours contracts can be particularly appealing to people who need the flexibility of being able to turn down work, or not having a particular schedule

It can also be good for those that don’t mind working unusual hours outside the standard 9-5 that many jobs offer. You can also, in theory, take holiday whenever you want without having to get it cleared from your boss first.

Taking on a job with a zero hours contract can be a great way to get your foot in the door of a company you really want to work for if they don’t have a full-time fixed contract available for you.

Making yourself known while working on a flexible contract can be a good way to make yourself available for consideration should something more permanent arise. Make the most of the flexibility by showing your availability to work at short notice and at unusual times if possible.

It’s also a good chance to get to know colleagues and management of a place before committing to work there full-time.

As there are no set hours, one of the upsides of zero hours contracts is the ability to pack in extra hours as they become available, so if you need extra money one month, you might be able to work twice the hours you worked the previous month and earn extra money.

You will visit clients within their household and deliver a personalised care plan. Your care duties will therefore include assisting the clients with daily living activities while maintaining their dignity, privacy and independence as far as possible.

Should you have further queries, please let us know, we would love to hear from you!

The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) operates 72 homes and 16 extra care housing schemes across Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, West Sussex and Suffolk.

OSJCT provides high quality person centred care for older people including dementia, intermediate, respite and day care, and specialised nursing.

Its ethos of care, which underpins all its activities, is based on the belief that every resident living in its homes should be given care that meets their individual needs. It also believes that residents and day care visitors should enjoy life in an atmosphere of warmth, harmony and understanding, being cared for by people who appreciate their need for privacy and who will respect their dignity and freedom of choice.

OSJCT is a not-for-profit charitable trust which means any financial surplus is reinvested for the benefit of the residents.

Its primary charitable object is ‘the relief of the aged, the infirm and the sick’. This is underpinned by the Christian principles and ethos of its two sponsoring Orders - the Order of Malta and the Venerable Order of St John. Between them, these two Orders bring a combined total of over 1,000 years of experience in care, relief and service. Today, they provide OSJCT’s Trustees.

OSJCT employ approximately 4,000 staff and support more than 3,500 residents. The quality of its service has been accredited by the National Care Forum, through its "Quality First" framework.

It also works closely with Dementia UK and was among the first care providers to employ its own specialist Admiral Nurses.
