Leonardo - Engineering the Future

Looking for a great start to your career in technology, earning and learning on a professionally accredited, award-winning scheme?

We are looking to recruit the technical and business experts of the future through our nationally recognised, award-winning Apprenticeship Programmes.

Leonardo’s three-year Manufacturing Apprenticeship provides a wealth of learning and development opportunities to complete your Apprenticeship. Working with world-leading specialists, you will increase your skills and capability, and develop your academic and practical understanding of the diverse world that is manufacturing & supply chain. You will undertake a series of three-month rotational placements – covering mechanical assembly, electromechanical assembly, environmental facility, material supply and logistics, master production scheduling and industrial engineering – identifying and resolving problems as they occur, within basic operating procedures. You’ll experience how we manage the flow of material through our supply chain, and how we ensure the process is as efficient as possible. The apprenticeship will also involve daily meetings on schedule adherence, load boards and visual Key Performance Indicators, with an emphasis on you organising your own workload to ensure time is utilised effectively. Later in the apprenticeship, you will provide coaching and guidance to junior team members and/or apprentices. You will be working within world class facilities regardless of which site you are based. Dependent on your role, you may be working in an office or lab environment or a combination of both. There may also be opportunities to travel between the Company’s UK sites to meet with colleagues, customers and suppliers.

Key Responsibility Areas

Years 1 and 2:

During your first year you will spend most of your time at college completing the foundation phase of your apprenticeship. Upon completion, you will return to Leonardo to start your three-month rotational placements. Through these placements you will gather real work evidence such as written logs describing day-to-day tasks completed and highlighting the key engineering competencies you have demonstrated. Your apprenticeship standard will require you to complete a folder of this evidence, demonstrating your development into a well-rounded technician through on-the-job training. During this time you will also be attending college on day release to gain the knowledge qualifications required in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

Year 3:

Having gained broad experience across Leonardo, you will undertake a final placement, with on-the-job training being more focused on a particular discipline. This will also provide you with the final pieces of evidence required to move into the assessment phase and complete your apprenticeship.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

Academic Requirements

You must have (as a minimum) the following academic qualifications:

· 2 GCSE grades 4 – 9 or grades A-C, including mandatory English and Maths or equivalent.
