  • Start date 1st October 2020
  • UK-wide and Ireland

THE OPPORTUNITY

Complete a three-year programme that enables you to develop into a well-rounded professional Engineer.

WHAT THE PROGRAMME INVOLVES

At Centrica, we secure and supply the energy and services that keeps millions of homes and businesses running. Join us, as a part of our diverse, multi-disciplined engineering team, and you can develop some of the skills, knowledge and experience that will be essential to our future success.

You can look forward to a mix of on-the-job learning, training modules and project work, and as you develop, you’ll find the challenges will increase in complexity and responsibility.

Our engineering programme is being accredited by the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), so you know you’ll be on the right track to become registered as a Chartered Engineer should you choose to; this typically takes 4-5 years, and we will help you all the way.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Engineering graduates who have a strong interest in Control & Instrumentation Engineering. You’ll also need:

  • 1st or 2:1 MEng degree in an electronics, control and instrumentation or closely related engineering discipline, accredited by the relevant engineering institution
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willingness to relocate multiple times and try new things
  • A passionate and creative Engineer who can deliver solutions within tight timeframes and implement them safely and successfully whilst demonstrating our values
  • In possession of a full UK driving licence, as you may be required to travel to remote locations

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Programme participants will be involved in developing new technologies, testing units, improving current products or designing future control systems across a variety of energy technologies. Our solutions are highly integrated so you will need to be familiar with digital systems. You will be working from day one as part of a team and we have high expectations of our Graduates. So, there will be plenty to get your teeth into and it will take a lot of hard work and initiative on your part. In return you’ll get to develop career-boosting skills and establish your engineering career within Centrica.

"There are three shifts driving change in the energy market and in our business: decentralisation of the energy system, customer power and digitalisation. Our strategy means that Centrica can react quickly and flexibly to these changes, and is strongly positioned to meet the needs of our customers, now and in the future."
Iain Conn, Group Chief Executive

These macro-trends are driving changes in the energy landscape:

Decentralisation - Globally, as we pursue lower carbon and more efficient solutions, the energy system is becoming decentralised with more technologies available and viable, close to the customer.

Digitalisation - Technological developments, both physical and digital, are accelerating the pace of change. Capability in these areas is key to keeping up with customers and their changing needs.

Power to the customer - As a result of increased choice and alternatives, the customer is becoming more powerful. Owning the relationship with customers and satisfying their needs is critical to our success.

These trends demand we deliver more decentralised technologies and propositions, stronger digital capabilities, and give our customers a better and more personalised service.
That’s why we’ve put ‘satisfying the changing needs of our customers’ at the heart of our strategy.
