Our Role

As a Network Connections Designer, your role is a pivotal one, helping to ensure Guaranteed Standards are met when providing quotations for new connections for customers. By providing customers with designs and quotations for both import and export connections to our network, you ensure we are delivering the highest level of service.

Your projects will be varied, and will involve large housing and industrial developments, with capacities in excess of 250kVA. The capacities you will design will predominantly be between 250kVA and 5MW, and will connect to the 11kV network. Projects may also include the connection of distributed generation equipment, under Engineering Recommendation Document G99 as well as larger demand projects connecting to the 33kV and 132kV network directly.

Due to the regulated nature of our business, all timescales set for our connections projects are heavily monitored, and therefore must be produced and issued to customers within the Guaranteed Standards timescales. In line with regulation, all our designs must be compliant with all appropriate rules and regulations in place, as well as meeting all engineering specifications and financial targets.

Your Skills and Experience

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have excellent working knowledge of both low and high voltage distribution and Power Systems networks, with an ability to create designs which promote safety throughout. If you have a relevant electrical qualification that would be great, however equivalent work experience is also accepted. You’ll be a strong communicator, with excellent organisation skills and a strength in developing and nourishing positive working relationships. You’ll have the opportunity to visit your clients, therefore, a valid UK driving licence is also required. If you have experience with PROMIS, GIS and SIMS technology that’s an added bonus, but if not, you should have a flair for picking up and working with new IT systems. Last but certainly not least, you’ll have a special appreciation for safety, and ensuring our safety values are at the forefront of your working.
