We understand that technology plays an incredibly important role in our organisation, but it’s our people who have the ability to truly evolve us. If you have a passion for change and are looking for a career in software engineering, join us and help us move towards the bank we’re becoming.

As a graduate trainee you’ll be gaining first-hand experience of how we utilise technology in our business, and building a compelling blend of technical and people skills that will prove invaluable in your career.

About the programme

Our Software Engineering graduate programme covers a broad range of areas across our Technology business. You’ll learn sought after, transferable skills and gain expert technical and business knowledge that will set you up for your future career.

We’ll reward you with a starting salary of £31,850. On top of your salary you’ll also have access to our flexible benefits package.

On the Software Engineering programme you can look forward to:

  • Collaborative working in an agile environment to continuously improve and deliver technology solutions to better meet the needs of our internal and external customers in the most efficient, cost-effective and reliable way
  • Building the technical skills to become a highly capable software engineer, delivering top quality code
  • Gaining experience in all aspects of the development lifecycle from requirements analysis through to coding, testing and deployment
  • Developing the confidence and influencing skills to innovate and challenge the status quo

Supporting you

We pride ourselves on the professional support we offer our graduates, and the friendly, down to earth community our graduates have shaped themselves.

Before you start, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ who’ll be a graduate already on the programme, and who’ll be there to help you get settled, answer any questions, and share their experiences.

We’ll also assign you a Graduate Coach and a Placement Manager. Your Graduate Coach will be there to provide support throughout the programme, and will work with you to create a personal development plan. Your Placement Manager will provide role specific support, and may change during the programme if you move to another team to further develop your skills and knowledge. Together, they’ll help you reflect on your progress, develop your career, and build your professional network.

For a fuller picture of how you’ll progress through the programme and the support you’ll receive at each stage, check out the Graduate Professional Development journey below.

About you

For the Software Engineering Programme you’ll need to be on course for, or have already achieved a 2:1 or above in a STEM subject.

We’re looking for curious and inquisitive people, with a real passion for technology and the drive to explore how it can be used to make a positive difference for our customers. You’ll be keen to work in a fast-paced environment, responding to customers’ changing needs and priorities.

You’ll need:

  • A strong customer focus
  • Problem solving skills, with a willingness to learn and quickly adapt to change
  • An innovative and creative mind set
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build great working relationships as you work towards a common goal
  • Previous coding experience would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided

In short, you’ll be something of an all-rounder, as comfortable solving technical problems as you are explaining concepts and thrashing out ideas with others.
