About the Department

What is the Role

This role is within the Fibre and Sites Design team which forms part of the Reading based Commercial Design team. You will lead a team of designers and have responsibility for the co-ordination, management and design of the national fibre network and site infrastructure including rack space, power, cooling, CCTV and environmental. You will also manage all commercial fibre and co-location sales opportunities and the fibre repair programme along with the creation and maintenance of key network records. Capacity planning of the fibre network combined with site utilisation design are also key elements of the role along with the business case creation and justification. As lead designer you will be responsible for the day to day management of the Fibre and Sites team, so previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage.

In addition, you will support and provide designs and solutions to fulfil current and future demands for fibre and site infrastructure for growth, sales support and strategic driven projects. You will manage the effective delivery of detailed design workflow from job initiation through to implementation, along with the creation and maintenance of key network records for fibre, network elements and site facilities. Also, you will be responsible for financial and budget requirements and weekly reports.

What do I need?

An essential requirement is experience and understanding of differing fibre types, specifications, optical presentations, testing and interpretation of results. Also you will have an understanding of the major components of a Layer 1, 2 and 3 network design and services. You should demonstrate a good working knowledge of telecommunications technologies, primarily Optical and Ethernet.

You will be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Visio and Excel and have experience of design within a telecommunications environment. You will also have experience in the use of geographical information systems.

We are looking for candidates that can display a high level of confidence, be able to demonstrate initiative and will have the ability to flexible working to ensure we are delivering projects to time and budget. If you are self-motivated with good working knowledge of telecommunications technologies, have a full driving licence and can demonstrate a strong focus on personal and corporate safety, then we want to hear from you.
