Helping our clients manage their radioactive and hazardous facilities ensures operation of equipment within a safe envelope, and that risks to workers and the public are adequately controlled and As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). Management of waste properly reduces the potential for adverse effects on the world around us, removes significant hazards for plant and animal life and prevents potential for harm to human health. Over the course of two years, your work here will have a real impact on making our world safer both now and for future generations to come. You’ll see how applying strategic thinking to multidisciplinary projects at the outset can result in innovative solutions to develop technically sound solutions for nuclear decommissioning, waste management, environmental restoration and new build projects.

Where you can join us

Places on our Science and Environmental programme for Autumn 2020 are available in our Cavendish Nuclear sector. But no matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.

What you'll be doing

You will be a key team member on every placement. You may be involved with the assessment of options for waste treatment and disposal from nuclear decommissioning projects, which could include discussions with a range of stakeholders to optimise solutions or develop mitigations for implementation. Equally, you may be looking at environmental enhancement projects to improve the areas around client sites. You will also have opportunities to work with other specialists such as Hazard Management Consultants. The possibilities are many and varied. Whatever you work on, you can be sure you’ll be making a real difference.

What you'll get out of it

We’ll match your passions to your skills to help you build a rewarding career as a versatile and highly competent specialist, whether that’s within Waste Management, Environmental or Decommissioning Planning. The range of work you’ll cover will help you figure out what you excel at. And once you know that, we’ll help you go as far as you can. We’ll support you, with your own mentor, as you work to become a Chartered Environmentalist or Chartered Scientist and give you a competitive starting salary of £29k - £31k (depending on location, role and qualifications).

What you'll need

You’ll need a 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree in Physics, Engineering, Environmental Science/Studies or Chemistry (or related subjects). You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
